I have a 1968, I think, Correctcraft Mustang. I would like to add mufflers. She is powered by a 318 CID Chrysler and the exhaust ID is 2 5/8". Anyone attempted this?

Gary, It's possible to add mufflers but I know you will be asked why? I'd have to say most of us including myself enjoy the classic sound of the older inboards!. Is there an ordinance you need to comply with?

I had a mid 70s inboard Chriscraft supersport inboard, which did not have mufflers. I added them and it significantly decreased acceleration vibration and sounded even better.
Thanks for the thoughts!

I've done it on my Holman Moody powered 69 Mustang with 3" exhaust. Had to have them custom made by Marine Muffler Corporation who was bought out by https://www.centekindustries.com" rel="nofollow - Centek Industries . HM's are louder than your Chrysler,it did take off the edge and made it more mellow. Not much room for them but as you can see it can be done.

Gary, https://www.centekindustries.com/product-category/inline-mufflers/?pa_inlet-size=2-5" rel="nofollow - Here's the Centek 2.5" standard mufflers. The 2.625" you measured is probably where the hose is stretched over the cast manifold. Considering the diameters of the standard mufflers, you may need to consider a short muffler tucked under the aft seat. Although Mustangs run bow high, my only concern would be the higher elevation (centerline) of the exhaust hose/tubing. If you do consider the mufflers, I'd call Centek to discuss the project. I still feel you should keep it original and enjoy the classic sound!

Post some pics... by '68, the Chryslers being installed were all LA/LM and used 3" exhaust all the way back. The earlier Poly motors used smaller hose and tips.
It can be a challenge fitting 3" hose or copper under the floor of the 16' boats, I am not sure how Gary got the larger diameter mufflers in place and still got his floor back down. Expect some complications here.

HM boats had the floor cut out under the seats just to clear the rubber exhaust.. Since my pan was taken out in the past I replaced it with one out of a Interceptor powered boat. John b was kind enough to give me his old pan out of the HM boat he parted,my boats twin,27 newer than mine. I used it as a template to cut my pan -
I am not near my boat but the one I have here has the same diameter and brand mufflers on it. Later I can measure them,I don't think the ones Pete linked will fit,as their too big around. Not much room in there

I should add that I believe that HM Mustangs had cutout floor pans- I have only ever seen 3 of them, John's 2 and mine. I cannot remember how my original pan was and since it was so long ago I have no pictures of that area.

I don't know why the HM's would be special, the LA/LM Chryslers had the same 3" exhaust and neither of mine had notched floor panels.
When converting an interceptor to 3" hose/copper, the larger diameter stuff held the floor up... maybe if the mufflers are tucked as far forward as possible they'll fit but it's gonna be very tight.

Their special because you don't have one Seriously when I get a chance I will go through John's thread,I think there is a picture of his pan hung up on the garage wall. His other pan did have the cut outs, will have to see if his newer one has them. Mufflers will not fit any further forward unless you cut bracing out, you can see it in front of my muffler in the first pic

I started a thread about exhaust for my Mustang and a member suggested these. Bought them but not installed.
