The original fuel fill in my 87SN was removed and replaced with a black plastic one of larger diameter. I'm installing a new SS fill similar to the original. Question: I have a lone 14 or 16 gauge black wire that looks to be a dedicated ground wire for the fuel fill. I haven't traced it, but the wire runs toward the front of the boat with the sending unit wires and anchor light wires. Is this the ground wire for the fill? Do fills need to be grounded and to where? I have the dash wire diagram, thanks CCF! Anybody know where I can get a diagram of the rest of this boat's electrical system? Thx. ------------- 87 SN |

Thomas, Yes, you need a ground at the sender. It's the ground source for the gauge. The gauge itself has the + feed. Peter, I believe my sending unit is already properly grounded. Unfortunately i don't have any gas in it to tell if it's working properly. I have powered the system with battery and the fuel gauge moves to the empty indication. What about grounding the SS deck fuel fill? Did the original rear wiring include a ground wire that was connected to the deck fill? Thx. ------------- 87 SN |

A good habit to get into is grounding the fuel nozzle to the filler neck BEFORE unscrewing the filler neck cap. Any static discharge is done with the fuel fill still closed. This is important enough that aircraft require a retractable static cable attached to the fill station and then an alligator clamp to afix to the airplane before refueling. Then ground nozzle using procedure above ------------- Keep it as original as YOU want it 1978 Mustang (modified) |
