I purchased a 2002 Ski Nautique last August. It looked okay but needed some polish. So I decided to make it new to me.

I removed all the decals polished the gel coat and repaired a couple nicks. Then stripped the interior out of it and pulled up all the carpet.

I then installed the new carpet.

Now putting it back together.

I have a whole box full of skins from Christines to put back on the seats. This is going to be interesting. Took them off 3 months ago to send for patterns, hope my notes and pictures are good enough.

Nice work. My first thought that came to mind was that boat is too new for refurb......then it hit me that it is 15 years old......sheesh....I think I started trolling the site about then! Keep up the good work.

Your progress looks great. Did you buy that off craigslist? If that is the boat I remember seeing on Craigslist, you got a smokin deal.

Yes I got it off of Craigs list. Nice little drive to go check it out and bring it home.

Nothing makes me feel more aged than a 2002 Nautique that needs gutting, cept maybe seeing an SVO mustang with tin-lizzy antique plates.

OMG what a great job you are doing. I am sure pulling that carpet out with all of the glue had to be one hell of a job. It sure pays to work with Christine's. The results are incredible and it shows that you are doing it right. .

Today finished installing the new GPS Perfect Pass upgrade. I also installed the new decals. The Ski by CorrectCraft was made by Domed Numbers. They did an awesome job at a good price, quick turnaround. Tomorrows job will be finishing sanding the engine box cover and putting the skin on it.

The last piece to cover, this is how many clamps it takes to hold the cover tight on the engine box. I used about 27 hand clamps and it worked great.

Frank,

Please give more info on the skinning of the motor box. Is there glue under the skin? I have send post on here over the years where they hang it upside down and such in a garage, but I never quite understood the process. The PO of my boat put several nicks in my dog house vinyl with skis. It drives my wife crazy so this is an excuse to change it.

Looking great. I never would of thought to used Doomed Numbers for emblems. I used them for my registration numbers and I was very pleased.

Donald

The engine house originally had just foam on the very top. I wrapped the sides with 1/2 dacron fill. Then covered the engine box with real thin painters wrap, sprayed a little 3M 74 to hold the film and dacron in place. Then placed the engine house on my large green roll around trash can so I could work around. Pulled cover down 2 people helps. Used 28 clamps to hold skin on and went around about 5 times, Then Stapled the skin down around the bottom edge. Hope this helps.

Today was the day. We were able to go to the lake and try out the boat, We went once yesterday, but was not getting any fuel.   I had the fuel lines on the tank swapped. The supply line to the pump had red tape on it on both ends. One of the 90 degree fittings had red paint on it. Thought they went together, wrong. Swapped lines engine primed up and fired right up. Perfect pass GPS upgrade worked great. The boat has the Farina upgrade on the gauges but the speedometer is 10-15 mph slow. The boat still has the paddle wheel installed,   I think this is the problem of the low speed reading any thoughts?

Okay since back on the water with a new steering cable, If you let go of the steering wheel just for a second you start a good left hand turn. This boat has the tunable rudder, what way to adjust it left or right or will it not make any difference.

Great looking boat, awesome work πŸ‘πŸΌ

Did this boat already have the Faria upgrade when you got it?

I know Nautique parts sells two versions of the faria kit, one for boat's that have PP already and one version for boat's that don't. If I understand correctly, the non PP version includes a paddle wheel and the PP version assumes you already have a paddle wheel to tap into.

The piece I'm not sure of... I don't think the faria gauges just have the ability to tap into your PP Stargazer gps, I think they need the paddlewheel. So, disconnecting the paddle wheel would probably just stop your faria speedo from working altogether.

You might want to start a fresh post with a title related to the faria gauges. Hopefully someone will chime in who has more experience with them.

I figured out what was wrong with the Farina speedometer upgrade. You know everyone says that the Perfect Pass is sensitive to low voltage. I had found bad connections on the speedometers from the install. Thought that was the problem. Ran boat for the first couple of times voltmeter was at 13.5 thought everything was okay. Speedometer still off sometimes. Went to go to the lake last weekend, engine would not crank over.   I found corrosion on the bottom of the battery cables between the cables and the saddle on the terminals. New terminals, shortened cables 1/2 inch fired right up. Then at the lake speedometer worked just fine. I was able to calibrate the speedometer to the GPS with the Perfect Pass. Thanks for all the help.

Hello
I am going through your post as I just bought a 2002 that needs a bit of work. I am am guessing that the floor carpet is 24 or 28oz. Wanted to ask you.

I also wonder if you thought of covering the tan plastic speaker holders that have the cup holder and handle. Mine have scuffs etc and dont look as good as yours. Do you have any suggestions on how to deal with that?
Thank you
I hope mine comes out as nice!

Gamma Ski the factory carpet is actually 44oz and I purchased it from Marine carpet.com. They had the exact color that I needed. They will send you free samples so you can compare. The molded parts are hard to find. I purchased one from Nautique Parts in closeout parts and do not know if they still have any more. They only had one of the three available. What part of the country are you in. Let me know if I can answer any more questions. Frank

Hello
Looks Great!
I am in the process of doing same thing. Your colors except charcoal grey instead of tan.

Would you tell me where you purchased your carpet. What oz for gunnels and floor?
I am thinking 16oz gunnels and 24oz floor?
Thanks!
