Here's a strange one, Have a '65 Barracuda w/ 318. New Edelbrock 1409 600cfm carb. Was idling great and ran well (some minor rough spots). Noticed that the water line to the Trans cooler was a little firm, so I disconnected it from the cooler and sure enough there was a bunch of pieces of impeller stuffed in there. Emptied it out and pumps great now. Unfortunately I can't get it to idle now. It starts with some throttle and runs at about 1200 rpm but if I put in idle it dies immediately, doesn't matter if warm or cold. Doesn't start at idle but fires immediately if given throttle then dies if put at idle. What the heck did I do by clearing the cooling hose to the trans cooler?

Any ideas?

That's possible, though I can't imagine what could go wrong in a matter of 5 minutes sitting at the dock not rumnning. So what do you think the cause of the problem staying started at idle is? New carb, new feul pump etc. Do I need to readjust the carb? Starting from the choke and idle etc?

Well, retuning the idle screws seems to have done the trick.
