I have white upholstery and over the years has developed these tiny black mold or mildew spots. Anyone know how to get these cleaned off of my seats without damaging? Shawn

If they are not bad us a vinyl boat soap like babes boat seat soap.
http://babesboats.com/
If they are really bad and the seat soap doesn't remove them use marine spray 9 from West Marine.

After you use both of these products you will need to treat your vinyl with a protectant like 303.

I wash the seats with Murphys Oil Soap, been around 100 years and still works well without drying out the materials. I found this information about cleaning mold with Borax, another cleanser that is 100 years old. If this is used I would again wash the surfaces with the Murphys oil soap as it will leave the surface soft and supple and not hurt the seat materials. I don't even rinse off the Murphys, I wipe it down and leave it, and it has worked for me 20 years.
Many mold removers depend on bleach, bleach can take color right out of anything it is dripped on so I would try the Borax.
Mold Removal with Borax There are many advantages to using borax to kill mold. For starters, borax is a natural cleaning product and although it is toxic if you swallow it, borax does not emit chemicals or dangerous fumes like some other mold killers. Borax, a white mineral powder, has a pH level of about 9 (baking soda is pH 8.1 and pH 7 is neutral) and a low toxicity.
Borax is commonly used as a deodorizer as well as for cleaning toilets and drains. Borax is also used as an insecticide, herbicide and fungicide and it can be mixed with water in a solution to kill and remove mold as it is a natural mold inhibitor. You can buy borax in supermarkets for a few dollars from the laundry section.
How to Kill Mold with Borax 1.To kill mold using borax, create a borax-water solution using a ratio of 1 cup of borax per gallon of water.
2.Vacuum up any loose mold with a HEPA filtered vacuum cleaner to lessen the number of spores stirred up into the air during the cleaning process.
3.Use a scrubbing brush with the borax-water solution to scrub the mold off the surface.
4.Wipe up any extra moisture and excess mold particles or dust/debris to prevent them spreading into the air once the surface has dried.
5.You don't need to rinse off the borax as the solution will prevent more mold beginning to grow on the surface again.
6.Leave the surface to dry completely.

Shawn, If the black spots are real small, it may not be mold but spider poop! I get them from having the boat under the lift canopy. How do you store your boat? If they are spider poop, then plan water works best. Some soaps/cleaners will actually set the spider poop making it hard to get off.

They are very small but plain water will not get them off. I have tried tilex, soft scrub, degreasers with no luck at all.

I had some black spots that had grown right into the vinyl. I had to scrape into the material to get rid of it.
To reduce the recurrence of mold, I dry all cushions with a towel after each outing. lots of work but at least they stay white!
