We have a 95 SN that has been running like new. Fires on the first turn always. Pulls hard, no hesitation. IT has the GT40.

The last time out, our Perfect Pass kept beeping at us the entire time. It usually beeps on start up and then maybe for a few seconds but this time IT.WOULD.NOT,STOP! We were about to head back and go home.

So sitting on Lake Austin, I decided to call PP tech support. He was helpful in that he had me pull the wires with two leads to make it stop beeping. That worked. However, much more craziness happened including the throttle jumping up while I was trying to slow down, not allowing me to go over 2900RPM, no response from the engine until I had pushed the throttle arm more than 1/2 way down and then it jumped forward at full speed! Dangerous! And then when we shut the motor off, it was impossible to start. It would fire then die. Fire then die. Finally once it fired and I was able to pump it to keep it running. We reconnected the plug and just lived with the beeping until we could return to the dock.

I am disabled and no longer able to ski. The PP isn't doing anything for me and I want it out of the boat. I have found a mechanic in Brazoria, TX that will do it.

Questions:
1) Anything I need to watch out for or know to ask?
2) Is there a market for used PP systems? I had planned on leaving the gauge in the dash just to cover the hole.
3) Suggestions for what to put in the dash to replace it in that spot?

Thanks!

Hi too bad you are having trouble with your Perfect Pass. If you want to disable it you can raise the engine cover, Look right about the thermostat housing and you should see the perfect pass servo. Just follow the wires out of the servo to the connector and you can unplug the servo connector. This should enable you to run the boat normally. Then when you want to fix the PP just plug it back up and talk to Mark at PP. He is a great help trouble shooting these systems.

I don’t know about that unhooking the servo to allow the boat to be used will work. I think it just leaves the throttle loose and useless.
That being said it should be pretty easy to put the boat back to manual control by putting a new ball on throttle body and an end on the throttle cable – if you take a picture of the current setup we could probably give you part numbers and instructions.
Usually when it is beeping at you it is because the perfect pass is not getting high enough voltage, this could be for a lot of reasons but generally undersized and likely to corrode and loosen wiring to the dash is a prime suspect. If the boat has recently been soaked it might just need to dry out.
The market for used perfect pass systems and parts does exist but is dependent on what system you have and how complete it is… if you took pictures of that we could point you in the right direction. Plenty of parts out there to fill the hole in your dash, if it was a newer system with a multiline display its probably worth pulling it all out to sell.
