Does the Dunphy x-55 w/ Ford 312 Interceptor ignition system use a ballast resistor?
I ask for the following reasons:
1. y boat doesn't have one
2. Prior owner installed Pertronix
3. After @ 20 min of running, sputters to a halt. Floods.

This is symptomatic of a friends '83 Nautique which, after several tries, was finally cured with a new coil.

4. Dunphy has new coil of correct resistance.

Thanks

Brian,
Yes, the 312's in the X's all used externally ballasted coils. Did the PO give you the point plate if you when back to a point set?

I'll check through my parts.

I think I looked up on the Pertronix website, and confirmed the correct ohm coil is on the boat.

The Pertronix instructions show the blast is deleted.

My symptoms are very much like an overheating coil.

Next week I'll use an IR gun to check temp.
