Where can I find weight capacities for let’s say 1/4 aluminum plate vs steel spanned 10 inches? In layman’s terms?

Is there any place online to purchase reasonable or does shipping eat up the pocket book?

Thanks

You really need to know the alloy of the metal & its yield strength. Once you know that, you can calculate the bending moment it can withstand.

The online suppliers I have looked at were quite high priced.

I have been going to a weld shop & they let me pick thru their bin, at least I don't have to pay for the shipping.

Thanks Gary. They are new to me and I drive by there all the time. I’ll stop by this week. There’s a surplus steel place just north of there, generally reasonable but it’s truly surplus. May be there, may not, may have 1/2” hole drilled through the center etc.
