What kind of hours do you think a guy can exspect from a PCM351?
How do you think hours compare to miles on a car?
Seems like our boat operate in a much cleaner invirment but under load at all times.
Lookin forward to what you guys think,I was around a 79 nauti that had over 3,000 hours still ran very strong,my buddy traded it for a new 82 stars and stripes power slot, which didn't last our group nearly as long brfore it was traded for 86 american skier. We really could boat alot of hours as kids w/kids.
See ya I'm going to the lake
Munday and saying monday too

Anything over 1800 hours is almost worn out.

I remember reading somewhere that PCM engines are rated for 2000 hours if properly maintained. I have neighbors with 2500 and 2800 on PCM motors, never overhauled.
Enjoy the lake. BKH

Hours is not really the problem. Corrosion on the cam and cylinder walls is what will eat up your motor before it gets to its overhaul time. Whenever they test an engine it is tested within a certain period of time without storage...

Also how the engine was used/abused. 2000 hours of idling and low speed cruising is alot different than 2000 hours of full or near full throttle.

I read in Water Ski magazine that to compare marine engine hours to auto mileage just add (2) zeros to the hour meter. My 88 has 1315 hours so it would relate to 131,500 mile. Again like Davaid said this is a rough estimate, depends on how the boat was used.
