I believe my engine issue is now solved - and the issue was a vacuum leak as Ken had suggested (that little voice... 'vacuum leak'). A poor quality base gasket, and some surface debris were the culprit. There was gas leaking around the base: noticed when looking closely, and especially after pulling carburetor. Replaced base gasket, after making sure surfaces were really clean. Engine is running like a champ! Still tweaking timing, but 100% better. Thanks Ken/Brent for directing the focus to vacuum leak! and thanks to all who offered comments/suggestions! Not only am I thrilled to have engine running, but it was also great to have moral support during the otherwise frustrating troubleshooting process. helped a bunch! Gary |

Glad you got it figured out Gary. Once again that old saying about ignition/fuel problems seems to have held true Just to paraphrase it "When you think it's one but you're stumped, look at the other system and you just might find the real problem" Also another case of CCF teamwork

Aw shucks Joe I just say it's experience and experience is directly proportional to the number of things you've screwed up/broken. When you look at it that way, I have a lot of experience. I started breaking SBF's about 48 years ago.in cars and about 41 or so years ago in boats Some of them I even fixed One of those little voices in my head even sounds just like that white haired guy that did the alignment video here on CCF. It's just a good all around mix of experience here on CCF that helps people get some things figured out. |
