Thought I'd start this up as a placeholder for a fall get-together of the GL reunion group. I know this came up in conversation several times at the GL reunion, so I'm just following through here. This would be nothing formal, just a get together. It doesn't have to be at GL, but it would be great to learn more about the lake and whatnot to prepare for next year. Depending on the amount of people, maybe we could do it around Chicago. I'm open to any ideas. I know for sure we have to get Rob back on the water since his 97 has left him high and dry. Any ideas, suggestions, sites, dates, input?

Joel,
Are you thinking perhaps the Fox in Sept or still in August?? Other than that around us in the Chicago Metro area, we'd need to go to a Southern or Western River.. But I'm game...

I know 81 Naut and 62 Wood were talking about Green Lake again in the fall, but we'd propbably have a better chance of a bigger turnout if it was down here somewhere..

Kick out some ideas.. Fox has never been my favorite place to boat, but......

...I haven't been to Blarney Island yet.

You guys could come to Powers Lake on Labor Day weekend. We'll be holding down the rock bar with PLENTY of cold ones. Across the street is a small lake perfect for some morning/evening ski runs, although it's $20 to launch.

I am a newbie located on Lake Delhi in Eastern Iowa, about # 1/2 hours from Chicagoland. I would really love to attend this reunion. I do know of Fox Lake near Chicago but do not know of Green Lake. Is Green Lake in Illinois? Do you all bring your boats? I hope to see updates on time and place so i can attend. Any info would be greatly appreciated. See Ya Soon

I'd love to go to Powers- "Live the legend". Labor day weekend is out for me. My company is moving to a new location that weekend and I have to make sure our entire computer infrastructure makes it safely. I'll be camping at the office the whole weekend.

For the most part Dana and I are in for G/L but Powers lake would work and isn't as far, doesn't matter which as long as there's a bunch of us going. We'd be up for Blarney but I think we'd need to buy a $75 permit for the chain and for 1 day I don't think I'd want to do that.

What weekend doesn't really matter, we're pretty flexible

You can buy 1 day ($10) or 5 day ($20) passes for the chain.

Welcome to CCFan David.... Green Lake would be about 3-1/2-4 hours from you in central WI. Just had the First Annual Midwest CCFan reunion there a few weeks ago. Powers Lake is inbetween the Chain of Lakes and Lake Geneva..
Stay Tuned and see where this goes.. Love to have another CC owner out there enjoying these events..

Boats-Beer-Brats and in Quinner's/Hollywood's case Broads...

Anyway.. Powers looks doable.. Here's some questions since I've never been:
1. Is it super shallow? Ken's whole story has me freaked now...
2. Are the ramps super crowded, or do they shut them down after so many boaters?
3. Are there sand bars or places to rest in the water and partake in some frosty ones?
4. Is the ramps suitable for Alan to launch the 81' with his 30 foot trailer?

Just wondering???

$10 sounds pretty good, we'd be up for that. probably not labor day weekend though, that place gets pretty darn busy.

Not to thread jack but we're gonna head out and check these guys out saturday http://www.midwestmilitia.net/home.htm - Midwest Militia Boot Camp we may camp there Friday night if we can get out of work early enough. They run a few of these events each year and I hoping to get some tips to help us out for our reunion next year. This could be a pretty cool day Saturday if anyone's interested in tying up for a float. http://www.midwestmilitia.net/flyer_bc06.pdf - flyer

I plan on attending Boot Camp this weekend w/o boat, but I know Ken will be there bumpin' his SAN.

I was just throwing Powers Lake out there. Yes there are 2 launches, one free one pay. The pay one has parking but it's limited. I always use the free one, it's much better. You can park by me for free, plenty of lawn space. Then walk down to the docks while swerving around geese sh*t on the lawn and jump on the boat. Shoal areas are well marked and never a problem. Lake size is ~450 acres and VERY clean.

I don't own property but all launches and our dock area have porta-potties for emergencies. Local town has 1 small motel, but there are plenty in surrounding areas (15 minute drive) if you really wanted to stay.

I've got no problem with the chain, but it does get crazy out there on holiday weekends. Powers will be busy, but we hang out most of the day at the Rock bar. Bring a heavy anchor or use some augers to twist into the bottom. Augers work much better, I might be able to find a few extra you do plan on coming.

If it's not Labor Day weekend, I'll go anywhere else in the area, but we usually have lots of people up that weekend. Although most of us are in our 20s, many parents like to attend this event as well. You can even meet Hollywood and PLBC's mother.

I think Powers works out location-wise. The chain may just be too huge, and too crazy. Any chance of good water for dropping in the course?

Across the street on the small lake "probably". Local tubers will probably complain though. There is a cop boat on the small lake but rarely comes out, along with all the other boats on the lake. If you want to come out one of these weekends before we can try and see what happens.

Anyone willing to let a couple of free loaders ride along and go for a quick ski, my wife and I would be willing to drive a couple hours for a fun day on the water. Where is Powers? Labor day is out for us..we'll be in Nashville
Next year, I'll definetly owe you guys a ski at GL, or wherever we end up. Now, if only I had unlimited money to fix the 97

I think you guys should all look again at the pic posted by Hollywood and then check out the link to his Boat Club. I did and gotta admit, these guys know how to do some serious partying. Best part is they are not afraid to take pics of everything. No worry about incriminating evidence here.

Steve, Ottowa is this weekend, Boot Camp. There will be some awesome riders out there and I hope to learn a little since it's all new to me.   Plus, we may camp friday night and that's always a good time no matter where you are.

Mojo, if you saw where we launched the boat from 2 weeks ago I'd have to say we can drop the boat in anywhere with the motorhome, I was actually a little nervoius it was about to become a houseboat Real shallow ramp and had to back in farther than normal to float the boat. Went back just a few feet too far and into the sand. We made it out fine but I was really thinking tow truck.

Hahahaha,,,, you're pushing your luck uh Alan !!!! Good to see no posts of a motor home half underwater !!! What a great summer of "trick launching"... Maybe you should start a school for the wayward motorhome people????

The Chain in my opinion, especially for small boats on the weekend gets worse than GL !!! Monster cruisers out there chopping it all up.. Not very relaxing.. There are some smaller lakes, plus the river up to the state park that are calmer.. We've stopped boating at "death" lake many years ago..

Powers sounds doable just not on Labor Day for me.. Unless you want to come up to Green Lake.. That's where I'll be..

Remember the "lifter noise" at the sandbar Saturday? It was actually a piston banging on the cylinder wall. Pretty ugly to fix, and it's unfortunately not in the budget this year.

Crap, I just double checked... I'm out of town that weekend.. Booked a last minute vaca with the little woman to Key West. Couldn't pass up a chance at a free condo on the beach...

It really is a good weekend to get together.. Lakes calm down considerably, and people are partied out from the weekend before. If you so decide to do it, have a killer time...

I wanted to attend the reunion up in Wisconsin. We were actually 40 miles or so from there that day. We were traveling to Minnesota for vacation. The boat almost steered the truck your direction. I am from the Champaign, IL area. We travel all over though. It is probably a far drive, but there is a awesome lake called Mill Creek down in Marshall Illinois. Beautiful lake and campgrounds. Just a thought if people were looking for a south location. Also Clinton lake. Water is 98 degrees at the nuclear power plant discharge. Yuck, but there is cool water too.

thanks for the invite! I will keep watching for a date. If I were to come, the weekend before Labor day would be cool or the weekend afterwards. Fairly flexible.

I'd take a southern location. I went to an MBO gathering 3 years ago on Shelbyville and we absolutely loved it. Amazing lake for boating.

Well, if you want warm water, Clinton is the place. Like last post it is a Nuclear Power Plant lake. There is cold water there though. Shallow places to walk on, but safe depth. Good crowds. I haven't been to shelbyville on the weekends for years. Went last year for an hour or so. Not opposed to it. Again, Mill Creek is great. FYI though. Just want to go to one of these reunions. Love the boats and would like to see others.

I guss I am in luck becaues shelbyville is fairly close to me. So I am in for that. Where would more people attend. Up north on one of the lakes or down south at Shelbyville/Clinton. I would think that turnout should affect decision.

I will throw this out...September 9th which is the weekend after Labor Day. I would be up for the 2nd, but sounds like people have plans.

I'm pretty sure we'd be in for anything after Labor Day, we'll drive down to Shelby if that's where everyone's going.

Labor Day plans so far look like we're going to try to stop by Powers Lake on Saturday and hook up with the PLBC crew if they're around. Then head to Green lake Saturday night and hook up with Mojo's gang Sunday. We'll camp wherever we find a spot.

Hooked up with Hollywood Saturday at Boot Camp and for just hanging around drinking a few beers we had a pretty good time. Finally got to just relax on a saturday afternoon, that was sweet.

Gotwake: we took off after getting up on Sunday, thanks for the offer though. Boot Camp was pretty fun and will consider Fall Fallout with the '88 in tow.

81nautique: thanks again for the pull down the river and letting us hang out on your boat. We'll definitely be out at the rock bar the saturday of Labor Day weekend, all are welcome.

Shelby looks dandy.

Seriously, the best weekend for us would be 2 weeks after labor day, sept 16-17. Shelbyville for me is 4 hours, that's a managable drive for us. If we go that far south we might get some of the St Louis guys to take a drive over and join us. We're pretty flexible so somebody make a decision and we'll be there.

16 and 17th...the lake would be very low traffic...shelbyville is a beatifull lake in the fall! Great spot....26 miles long and sheltered ....always calm areas.
My buddy Brian who was at GL keeps a 32 foot carver there...and we know a bunch of local folks with big boats...might be fun to get a few party barges to tie uo to!
Hey..it might be in striking range for Paul and The lake....KC is what...6-7hrs???

My vote is either of those two weekends after labor Day...At Shelbyville!

Throw out something else too...I need to check the schedule...one of those weekends, our ski club is having a pig roast on lake Decatur...40 min drive from Shelbyville...we have a ramp , pavillion, picnick tables...plenty of docks....maybe that could work into things!

You have my vote too. Shelby the 16th and 17th. Shelbyville worked out great for me and the Malibu guys and I'm sure they'd stop by too. They are great guys despite their boat choices (JUST KIDDING people). I'll post some pics later of the course in Shelby and you'll be sold. For us Chicagoans it is a LONG and BORING drive... but well worth it. We stayed at a nice resort there called Eagle Creek or something... more details when I get home tonight. I may do a 3 day weekend if anyone wants to stay a bit longer. This will be great.

Eagle Creek....I would hightly recommend that area...two close ramps...plenty of camping...or stay at the eagle creek facility!

That section of the lake is deeper as it is closer to the damn! And near the party cove!!

very nice golf course too....but who wants to do anything other than play on the lake

Here is the resort. Nice upscale facilities. I'll probably stay there since there is NWIH the wife would stay in a tent.

Stang,
I wasn't following this post, so disregard the email I sent you until this line of thought works out.
I was thinking of tyring to talk you guys into considering the Lake of the Ozarks; but that's a little far for most of you.

Chuck...it looks like most of the voices are in or near chicago...which makes it far for them.

My wife and I do plan to make it out that way (fall or spring not sure yet)and see Paul and the crew...maybe that could include some others and meet at lake of the ozarks! Beautifull lake !!

I think for now keeping things closer for the guys in Northern IL would be a popular choice

If you're camping, Wolf Creek State Park is really nice. Excellant launch ramp and pretty close, well, across the lake from Eagle Creek resort. Can't make the 16/17 (will be at surf expo) but have a blast! Love that lake in the fall and we'll be heading down with a group in mid-october to catch the leaves changing.

My 02 team at Shelby...(RIP)

I think the lake is about 4 hours from chicago.

It is a good spot, but if another place works better for others...thats cool too!

Or another date?

Sept is wide open for me and going a few hours up, down or over is no problem.

Lets hear some voices out there!!!

Gotwake...let me know when you come down!Trees turning on the lake is awsome...lakes usually like glass!

Kurt, you're about 10 posts too late. Hollywood looks like he's in! You guys don't have to trailer down there- you can ski my boat. It is a ways down but think of it as one last hurrah for summer. In about mid-February you'll be happy you turned it into a weekend trip.

The portable course is the greatest thing ever. We can deploy it in 15-20 minutes. I'll have to ask one of the other guys where that was that we laid out the course, since it was a perfect spot. It was maybe a 10 minute boat ride from Eagle Creek. We left it in overnight and nobody seemed to mind.

Hey Guys,,, Is this in stone for Shelby?? I have that Sat available, and sure would like to hang with you guys, but it's a bit far for a one day jaunt...I'll have to catch up with you all in the Spring. Have a killer time though and be safe...

Question: I saw a boat advertised for sale in Cedar Lake, IN. Anybody boat out there before?? It's about 800 acres I hear???Maybe this could be a spot we all could get to real easy from the burbs...

The location is not in stone. It looks like the contenders are:

1. Powers Lake (just over the border north of Chicago) This would be a one-day affair. Meet, greet, hang out, ski like crazy.

2. Shelbyville (4 hours south) This would be a weekend affair, ski-a-rama on big water down south.

I'm up for either. Let's have a vote from everyone who is serious about going. For the record I'll vote #2 because quite frankly I'm going to need a getaway the way work has been lately.

Mid September should be quiet on the lake, setting up the course at powers may take a little finagling, as in make sure johnny law doesn't come out.

Joel,

I want to run the course so if there is a problem with putting it in at Powers then I say Road trip downstate to stang country. I also like the idea of camping right on the lake, wake up in the morning and hop in the boat so Shelby it is.

Dang, this is cool. I have always wanted to meet other nautique guys and it will be fairly close. So my vote is Shelbyville on the 17th or whatever. Camping is also cool. Resort may be pricy for me. So I guess you can count a newbie in if I can come.

Looking at my calendar, 9/23 would be fantastic.

So, here's a fresh look at the tally:

MOj---Powers/9-16
M3Fan-- Shelby/9-23
PLBC---Powers/9-16
Stang---Shelby/9-23
81nautique---Shelby/9-23
weitekampt---Shelby/?

Looks like the Shelby peeps are good. Here's a new thought- it's so easy for many of us to get over to Powers that we can do that AS WELL as Shelby. Heck, make two midwest gatherings.

HEre's our plan, looks like we're going to Powers on the saturday of Labor day weekend. Probably more hanging out than skiing, then up to Green for the rest of the weekend.

The Shelby trip is cause I really haven't done a ton of skiing this year and those photos of the course and that flat water got me going.

So goof off up at Powers and get some serious skiing in at Shelby

OK, I am in for Shelbyville on the 23rd. Where in the heck is Powers? I may get squirrely and do both? I am definitely a slalom/trick skier so good skiing is critical, but floating with a barley pop is enjoyable too.

Hey guys, since ya'll like road trips, how about coming to Ala. We can run until mid-end of Oct. with a wet suit. Course stays up year round and we got a couple boats available for the pulls if you have to put yours away for the winter. Ski in the morning, football and bbq in the afternoon. Just a thought..
