I bought at 96 SN that has a white water filter bowl. It lookes like is had been painted. Does anyone else have a white bowl?

Is it the sea strainer:

or the fuel/water separator:

I guess the strainer could have been painted white, but that would be weird... Many of the separators have white filter elements like the one in the pic.

It is the water strainer. My parents 88 2001 is clear thats why I thought it was weird.

you can replace it pretty cheaply if you don't like it (skidim.com). Or perhaps you can just rub the paint off with acetone.

Welcome to the forum. It's an awesome site. Watch out or you'll become addicted fast.

Post pictures of your boat in the diaries section. We'd all love to see it.

It is this boat. I built a step to replace the center seat in the back.

It is probably just the clear plastic having turned cloudy due to age. Might be a good idea to replace the bowl before it breaks. But, I have no idea if the cloudy apperance is an indication that the plastic has become brittle. Anyone?

I have a 95 Gt-40 with the white strainer. my 1988 SN 2001 was clear. It bugs me as well that I cannot see if it is clogged.

If you use antifreeze to winterize your boat it's the antifreeze that fogged your plastic strainer bowl. Buy a new one. Get an o-ring too because it doesn't come with one.
I use my fogged bowl while the boat is winterized with antifreeze, then after running in the spring to get the antifreeze out I switch to the newer clear one that I have. I've been doing this for several years now.

http://www.correctcraftfan.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=4886 - Check it out. This guy thinks that antifreeze can turn the strainer white. Interesting...
