I want to install a depth finder in my boat. Has anyone tried a "shoot-thru-hull" type transducer on a late '70's CC? i put on in our 77 mustang. works great. just follow directions on install. ours is about half way down the drive shaft and halway between shaft and about 1' off the centerline.

The one I'm looking at buying is not recommended for shooting thru a hull with more than 3/4" of wood. Are our boat hulls solid fiberglass? ...or do we have a layer of wood?

| you are correct. cant shoot through wood (wood is too pourous) but you can shoot through glass. to work properly your transducer cant have any air between itself and the sea floor. your hull is full glass. to mount you will be making a bed of epoxy and setting the transducer in it to cure. make sure you bed of epoxy is large enough to cover the complete surface area of the transducer. we have an inexpenseive uniden. basically does exactly what i want. I got a pdf article comparing different brands. just dont know how to attach to my post |

| I have a Hummingbird 2 1/2" under dash mount. When I found the correct location, i left water in the bilge, and put a sandbag on top of the transducer, and cruised around the lake at different speeds. it took two tries to get it to read at high speeds. |

Well, I've purchased the teleflex with the shoot-thru-hull transducer. I tried various methods of finding a good spot, none of which seemed to work very well. So I epoxied it down behind the transmission about 6" off center. I get good readings maybe one-third of the time. Is this normal due to irregularities in the bottom of the lake?
