Hi All,
I have a 160 degree thermostat in my 351 winsor -- it will sometimes go to 170 degrees max
should i install a 180 thermostat- I read that the 351 winsor runs best at 190 but i think in a marine application thats too close to 200 degrees which doesn't give you much time to react in an overheat situation ex. broken belt, raw water pump or main engine water pump failure or blocked stern drive raw water intake? one person said you get about 3% more horse power if the temp is closer to the 190 degree range-?anyone know if this is true?
your thoughts and suggestions please
