I had the PLBC boys out for a day of footin Saturday, cracked the first beer before 9:30am, what a day, and the old guy's (me and Booby) came away in one piece!!

First shot needs a title:
I was thinking something along the lines of "3 reasons to use Trojans" or maybe "Don't Ask Don't Tell".

Quinner and Booby were proving that old age doesn't mean you can't hang with the young guns. I'm pretty sure Chris had the most runs as well as longest run of the day too. Unfortunately there isn't a shot of Jonny's nose AFTER he walked straight into the bimini, haha.

Kurt,

Just a little sore yesterday, today the congestion is killing me, my nose is running like a river, Quinner to self - duct tape nose next time.

Next time we need to get some more players so we can pull 4 or even 5 at once, who's in?

Awesome pictures!!! Must be amazing to watch in person. That wake is flat as a board too. Is that 40-42 MPH?

The wake was indeed amazingly small. I'm used to climbing that wall behind the 2001 to get over, wasn't even an isssue behind the 206 hull. I have no idea what the speeds were but I'm guessing low 40s like Ken is also suggesting. Even the deep starts felt plenty quick.

In looking at the pics again, I see you have mastered the art of "cheeking"...steering with your butt so as to avoid your colleagues on the start...a valuable skill.

We had another rope and handle but never ended up going for 4. By years end we will have 5.

Speed was right in the range mentioned. That boat had such a solid pull and very little bow rise, a treat to drive.

Ken,

We were mostly running right around 40 I believe, it is always a blast to be right next to eachother, gabbin at 40mph, the biggest trip is when you bang into eachother, Booby took me out on one start, I just stood and he was still butt ridin, he bounced off of Hollywood which shot him straight at me, he came across like a chop block.

75,

We could use ya man, I am 42 and Booby is 45, we did spank the youngens a couple times but they rebounded, Hollywood was solid all day and we always made him ride on the inside through the corners, no question he worked a bit harder. Still have some shots of Kurt Johnny and Hollywood to post.

One of my favorite "threesome" shots. These go back a few years, but great memories. This is in a frame on my bookcase at work. I have to confess, my endurance isn't quite what it used to be...I can't barefoot as long either.

You guys make the sport look like cake. It must be a huge rush being side by side at 40MPH+ on barefeet. It takes me 100% of focus on what I'm doing to stay up. I also didn't know that you could use an extended pylon to barefoot. Must give you a nice lift out of the water. Now you just need two other people to jump in the picture. Keep the cool pics coming!

Looks good guys,

I wonder how many hours I would have to put on the stairmaster this off season before I could fit into my old barefoot suit?
I never did master a deep start although at the time I was trying to learn all the fastest boat I had was my 16 foot outboard I am guessing the inboard would make it a bit easier.

Am I reading too much into this?? Nice pics by the way.

On the starts I try to cheek out but sometimes don't make it over the crest and end up shooting back into the middle guy. As long as he can hang on I'll get up and out of the way. It helps to have a nice plump bottom to glide over that wake.

Here is Kurt - Johnny - Kevin

Johnny didn't make it

Another try
Kevin - Johnny - Kurt

Johnny was bouncing back and forth on the start and once he took Kurt out he stood up.

This next shot you can see Hollywood starting to lift his leg like a dog, ho got his foot all the way up to kick Johnny and Johnny pushed his foot away, funny stuff and they both stayed up.

We finished up about 3pm and of course the water gla$$ed up once we were done.

How come when you long line BF, you're not getting spray up your suit, into your face? I always have an issue with too much spray on my body. What am I doing wrong?

Ken,

Two possible suggestions:

1. Body position. Keep your knees bent, think sitting in a chair. The guy in the red suit probably has the best form.

2. Speed. You might have to throttle up a few MPH.

Ken,

I am by far no expert but some basic things to look at:

Boat speed; should be about 10% of your weight + 20 = mph.
Position; look at Johnny in the last couple shots, very good position with no spray in face.
Stance; you should be riding on the balls of your feet.

If you want some real pointers check out Lane Bowers web site http://www.thefootersedge.com - The Footers Edge lot's of good stuff there.

Posted By: TRBenj
Date Posted: August-29-2006 at 11:47am
I agree with 75 Tique and quinner. Most likely it has to do with your foot position.

Calm water and the upwards pull of a pylon or tower help too!

I usually keep my legs more on the straight side and knees locked. The balls of my feet "chatter" in the water sometimes, which causes me to drink half the lake. Speed is 36-38 MPH, I'm 189 pounds. Obviously, my form is incorrect. This is why footn' has been discouraging for me. My legs and lower back are spent after a 80-100 yard run. Thanks for the advice.

Eeeek. The locked knees are causing your chattering problems. Also the straight legs will make you have to lean back to prevent catching a toe, which will cause you to ride on your heels more giving you that nasty spray.

Bend those knees, sit down and get more surface of your feet on the water, that will relieve the pressure and yield less spray.

-------------

Posted By: PLBC
Date Posted: August-29-2006 at 12:14pm
Ken, form is probably your cause for spray. Jonboy in the red is sitting too much IMHO, he also usually takes the hardest falls.

how does it go, knees above ankles, hips above knees, shoulders over hips....?

I'm always afraid I'm going to point my toes down if I go into a chair position. I tend to lean back to keep the front of my foot out of the water and toes up. I do ride with a lot of heal in the water. I'll work on more of a chair position the next time.

I don't know much about footin' but I do know that knee bend is critical. Have a neighbor, now in his 50s, about 250lbs, and still competing into last year. The knees finally gave out, and he can't do it any more. His solution - now he only foots backward. BKH

All it takes is money, both Seipel and Lane Bowers charge $1000 plus expenses for a full day. If you're serious get a group together and split the costs, it would be worth it.

I went down to Scarpa's school for a week back in my foolish days. I was totally spent at the end of that week. I was sore in places I didn't know could get sore. Great guy though & we had a good time. He makes it look way to easy when he foots!

Had the PLBC boy's back out on the lake this weekend, we pulled 2, 3, 4 & 5 at once then 7 using 2 boats side by side. There was a bit of wind and the water was only about 60deg.
Gotwake was a bit late and missed the footin but not the beers and brats, thanks for sending out the brand new 197 and Erkol as well. M3 and his wife Beth did alot of the driving so thanks to you guys as well.
It was definitely a Great time!

Tow Boats for the day and some of the Boy's.

Random shots from yesterday

5 footers

7 footers with 2 boats running side by side.

Hollywood and me today, I think we wore the rest of the crew out yesterday

Looks like you guys had a great outing and tons of fun. Its was always fun getting those last good times in at the end of the year...but it always made me a little sad too, knowing how long it would be till the next outing. Great pics guys... and a challenge to the New England group. What do you say Keith, Ken, Tim and Brad...we can match five can't we...now we just need to find No. 6.

Ahh, I like a challenge. Let's do it to it! We've got Keith, Tim, Brad, Larry, Eric, Mike, Scott and me. I know that out of this group, me, Tim, Larry and Brad are footers.

Da eastcoast boyz will tear it up! Our threads are TBD, but maybe we'll have a little "bling, bling,".

You guys are something else! I'll be at the Green Lake reunion next year, so I'd love to jump in one of your photos.

I'm not sure if Keith or Jeff Kostis foots at all. Our friend, John (JBear) does. We'll have to fly him up here for our East Coast run. We'll show you young folk how we roll. We'll show you how to put some cold ones down too.

Mike, get the 210 ready for the spring. We'll need the extra HP!

Tim, maybe you're right, but it's worth a shot. I have no proof that they actually drink the beers that they're holding. Could be non-alcoholic Zima light.

Ken, you make a good point.

I know of a couple boats that should be able to pull 5+ footers, so all we need are more bodies.

We'll take drinkers and footers, Joe. I know most people know how to drink, but it's the capacity I'm not aware of. Example, Hollywood drinks, but is he wrecked after two beers? I have no physical proof that the PLBC boys and girls can put them down. Moj' are you in on this too?
