Hi and welcome to the site! I never owned a 454 in a boat but did have a 496 in my last one. Barefoot Nautique owners will probably chime in on the specifics of the 454 but I can tell you a few of the universal basics.
Top of the pros column is the outstanding low end torque that big blocks have when compared to the small blocks of the era, and of course in the marine world torque is king (not necessarily HP). Drawbacks would of course include fuel economy and the extra weight of the big block, again vs the small blocks.

I had a Martinique with a 454 in it. Fun boat! Other than the fuel economy, no real downside. I had lots of fun in that boat, and the guy I sold it to loves it too.

Welcome to the site Scott! We all love pictures, especially the boys up in the frozen North! Keeps their hopes alive for the next season!
I see you are in Tavares?! We are just down the road in Apopka, and Orlando76 is in Mt Dora. Although he is out of action for a few weeks. (See "Man down") What lake are you running her on?
Let me personally invite you to SJRR, you will love it! See that under "Reunions", coming up in March. Pictures!

The Martinique is a pretty rare bird especially this far south. The PCM 454 is just as much a proven power plant as is any other and parts are readily available. If you plan to go to a mechanic I can recommend a few if need be. Are you on the lake or a landlubber?

I had two friends, both w/ Martiniques.   And both named Ken.
Ken H. had the '84 in Dresden Blue with a 351 and
Ken B. had the '81 in Ivory w/brown with the 454.

After driving both, I came to the conclusion that:
You are really gonna want that big block.

I'm the guy that bought NautiqueJeff's Martinique and I love it! It is a b/r and we love all of the room. Fuel economy is terrible, but, who buys a boat to save on fuel? Tons of power with the 454. We have several "big boys" in the family/friends group and nobody has a problem getting up skiing, wakeboarding, and surfing. We also love all of the teak wood in ours. I think the '83 is a bit different looking than ours being an '88... But, you'll love the power a 454 brings to the lake!
