So I bought a new Acme 422 for the boat soon after I purchased the boat. Then it was promptly destroyed - that's a whole other story that some on the site may remember. But when it was replaced by the insurance, the local MC dealer used a reman prop. This was rather frustrating to me since the first prop probably had less than 5 hours on it and had been in pristine, flawless condition just prior to the accident. Well the new REMAN prop doesn't seem to have been done all that well and not only vibrates just a bit but also doesn't seem to quite perform like the original. Thus I plan to put it on the shelf as a back-up and purchase another NEW one. But here is where I've got a dilema. With the new engine, and apparently a bit more HP, certainly a whole bunch more lower RPM torque, I'm curious if there is a better prop for me than the 422. I'm not looking for top end speed (had that with my last boat - been there, done that) nor am I looking for a monster hole shot as I seem to already have that. So what this post is about is really just opinions and suggestions - what other props might I consider? Or should I just stick with the 422 .... And so no one has to go back and look up my history --- 95 Ski Nautique, closed bow Reman GT-40, slightly modified - figuring about 340-350HP Typical boating is between 1100 - 1400 foot elevation With modified dry weight is about 2600 lbs and 900 more for fuel, gear and 3 adults ------------- JCCI 1995 Ski Nautique GT40 |

Yeah, yeah .... ham it up!  But seriously Ross, this isn't a stock 351. Or even a stock GT40. As I said, it's been a bit modified. Machine shop and I went over specs and modified accordingly, specifically to build an engine that would produce a minimum of 340 ponies. When all said and done, the owner was confident of at least the 340 and added "most likely more". Joe, sorry the 422 was damaged and not made right. I ran a 224 for a while worked well. If you are not seeing 5,200 RPM I would stay with the 422. My GT 40 ran 5200 rpm with the 224, top of my head tonight I can't remember what it runs with the 422. Sad but true, I guess I better check last years posts. It takes a lot of HP to make a prop spin faster. Mark ------------- |
