I have a 1988 w/the 351w. The Holley Carb has an open port sucking vacuum (red arrow). There is a bra$$ nut and screen insert. I'm guessing for a vacuum advance mechanism? I lean to plug it up, but was wondering if this is normal or is something missing? Thanks for any insight.

you guessed...poorly.
If you plug it up, it will burn out the electric choke, the air keeps the element cool.
It should not be pulling in big air, just a little, else something is amiss.

If you have avacuum leak around the choke, mine did the same thing after rebuild and I found that the gasket around the port on the back side was no longer stuck to the choke mechanism. I figured there must of still been some carb cleaner on it and the stick um on the cork gasket didn't bond, because I remembered putting it on but I didn't double check it when rea$$embling.
