The finish of my gen 2 FCT is looking faded/oxidized after enough years of exposure to the sun. Does anyone have experience polishing one of these up and, if so, what products/techniques are effective? Removing the tower and powder coating again is not really an option at this time.

I’m thinking if there’s no peeling or blistering you could get a few years out of a good wet spray epoxy but you’re gonna spend a lot of time masking for a few years of glory. Best way is to bite the bullet and pull the tower, blast old paint off and have it powder coated.

+1 - pull the tower. Not worth the headache or mess to tape it off and work around the rest of the boat. Powder coat should last a lot longer and likely be much more durable than paint anyway

Interesting - I had assumed all along these things were powder coated from the factory, not painted.
I hear you on pulling it, but since there are no chips, bubbles, or other issues I was hoping that using a rubbing compound type of product along with a drill attachment might yield a decent result for the time being.

Pick a spot and buff it with light polishing compound. If it brightens up and you can keep from cutting through the coating there’s a chance you can bring it back. Nothing to lose if you don’t cut through it. If you do, I’m sure you can touch it up.
