I have a 91 ski nautique with a 351w when i bought the boat it had a mallery ignition system that failed on me right when i bought the boat. The motor just turned over with no spark when i checked the coil it was super hot. I changed coil and put a distrubtor with points, it ran good for one outage then got super hot and failed what could be the cause of this? and What is the best hei style ignition works best for this boat?

Does your wiring still have a ballast resistor in place? If not, you may be running too much voltage to the coil causing it to heat up and fail. Most points setups will use a resistor, I'm not sure what the mallory electronic setup calls for.
