This video backs up what has been said before about filters. Very informative and worth the time to watch.

I thought everyone on ccfan loved fram filters.

Very good, in depth and informative video. Never used the 'orange' before but I'll have to be honest, it wasn't because I thought they were really crappy.... I would always just buy "factory" parts - i.e. Motorcraft for ford, Delco for GM, etc. After watching the video I now have an entire new reason NOT to buy orange

Very interesting!! Duane, Thanks for the link. Glad I've never used one of those orange filters and embarrassed to say they sell them at the HD. Probably because of the color.

Always thought that everyone was going a little bit overboard on the Fram filter bashing until I watched this video a few months back. Now I am a believer .

Yeah I’ve watched that video before and others and routinely Fram lost big time. In the back of my mind all I could hear was Petey griping about those damn orange filters.

Very Accurate video Thanks for sharing. Another brand not mentioned is Hastings, Hastings offers a high quality filter but are hard to find today. The OEM filters are all built by someone else. OEM's, GM, Ford Chrysler have not manufactured filters or many other parts for over 20 years. Champ Labs makes many of the private label brands and does a pretty fair job. Wix is a great manufacturer of filters, they cost more but as you see you get what you pay for.

I have a Fram on my lawnmower. Can I be forgiven ?
Seriously though, In my garage Fords generally get FL1A because they are cheap and handy to get (and white to write hours on). Everything else I own gets standard line Wix.

We use NAPA Gold filters. I quit using Fram when NAPA started putting them out on their counters for their customers to inspect, but I used Fram for years and some vehicles were still running well when I sold them with upwards of 300k miles on them, so how bad can they really be?

They do make silver sharpies. But..... to keep up with CCF tradition (no I hadn’t met ya Zach but heard plenty of digs) the silver sharpies are kept on the upper shelf at the store.

Silver Sharpies make great timing marks and generally make me happy so I have them in all tool boxes - some of my old ford interior trim pieces might have been been touched up here and there with a silver sharpie where some old plastic "chrome" pealed off as well. I am pretty sure I am running FL1A's on Fords and even Chryslers these days - occasionally I get the mobil 1 version because the auto store oil change bundle on sale means 5 quarts plus the filter is the same price as 4 quarts without a filter. However after buying all those cases of VR1 over the winter it might be time to order a box of WIX to have on hand.

Ha, yeah I should grab up a silver sharpie. Wix general line was white until a few years ago and they swapped to black.
Anyone have a ladder?

Napa gold = wix. I’m still getting both black and white flavors of standard wix stuff (depending on the filter #). The ford and Chevy boat stuff is all black though.
If a cheap filter doesn’t fail then it doesn’t harm the engine and it can live a long life... it’s when the anti drainback valve fails or media clogs up that you’ll be glad you went with the better built filter (and they usually don’t cost any more $).

Great video, when we got our boat back in the family after a few years of someone else owning it, it had one of those orange filters on. It was quickly changed back to the NAPA Gold, plus my Dad owns a NAPA shop, so I get a little better price on those.

One thing for sure is Frams advertising is successful! It proves you can even sell junk!
