noticed last night before I re installed prop shaft coupling that Im needing to replace cutlass bearing on 74 mustang. been using skidim for parts but they are closed til Monday. hoping to find somewhere opened tomorrow that could ship Saturday so I can get this boat together. my work has me way behind with getting boat ready and I'd like to do so before I go back to work next week. prob a shot in dark but figured I'd ask thanks |

| actually after reading some other post I'm wondering now if replacement is necessary. I'm certain it's never been replaced and boat has 1400 hours. movement is very minimal. I'd say 1/16 either way. moving it with coupling detached from tranny. |

Damon, You should be getting less movement. I think I'll take your advice and replace. I definitely dont want to take the coupling off more times than i have too. I'm just concerned about possible drivetrain realignment after the new bearing is installed. this boat is nickel and diming me to death thank you for the response. I have been on deep blues web site. I will call them in the morning. maybe they will be open |

Damon, Fill us in on the R&R on the coupling. Is it still the heat shrink interference fit between the coupling and shaft? | it's still nice n tight. socket pressed it off. shaft and coupling surface looks good. dont remember any issues with vibration or noise but I will measure shaft runout since one of the prop blades has a nice nick in it. hopefully it's good. if not I may bite the bullet and do the A.R.E. I dont ever plan on selling so I can see that kit being money well spent as far as future maintenance goes |

new bearing from deep blue came in today but it isn't a press fit. its tight but I can slide it in by hand? is the set screws enuf to hold in place? I had to cut the old one out. the bearing I ordered from deep blue was the 'back' bearing. 1.25od for 1" shaft 4" long. did I order wrong one? thanks |

| i.d. of the strut is measuring 1.245 but the new bearing o.d. is measuring the same. actually measuring the old bearing o.d. at the part that wasnt cut into with removing is measuring just under 1.25 as well. guy from deep blue is telling me to use epoxy. I was going to get you guys opinion as everything I've read on here has been to install with threaded rod after freezing the bearing |

Damon, Struts are notorious for sloppy machining so don't worry you did not purchase the wrong cutlass. It only takes one thousand's of an inch to go from a press to a slip fit. I have run into the slip fit issue and yes the set screws will hold the cutlass in but I've also used a small amount of blue Locktite.
