Quick question- No spark that I believe I have traced down to the electric igniter being bad in the distributor. Did a click test I found on you tube, no click. 120.00 bucks for a replacement, not bad...has anyone experienced this? if so, is it usually just a 40 year old part dying or a symptom of a bad distributor? Appreciate all help. Brett |

How about a picture of the distributor with the cap off showing the "ignitor" so people can know what you're dealing with. 40 years ago your boat came with points and somewhere along the way the electronic kit would have been installed.to replace the points |

Somebody replaced your whole distributor at some point because that distributor wasn't used till 1987 with points and around 93 you could get it with that module or buy the kit for the earlier points version.. It's a Prestolite screw down cap distributor with one of the Prestolite electronic modules. Those modules are kinda hard (pretty much impossible) to find new these days. It was discontinued a long time ago For that particular distributor with the 8 legged reluctor wheel in the middle, Pertronix makes a kit part number 91589. If you come across a Pertronix 1582 kit for the screw down cap, it won't fit because of that 8 legged reluctor wheel It's around 150 bucks at Jegs, Summit etc. Because of that wheel, the Pertronix is probably the only kit you'll find I have to go and take cover now, cause the throngs of Pertronix haters are gonna throwing lightning bolts at me  |

Just so so There is also a cheaper version from Pertronix part number 1589. It's the earlier original ignitor and it's about 115 dollars. If you leave your key on with the engine off accidentally, you can burn out the module. With the 91589, some magical internal circuitry senses that power is on and the distributor isn't turning and kills power to the module to prevent burning it up. |

Ken is at least in the butter knife drawer; There is 1) Good 2) Butter 3) Best (Sharpest knife in the drawer). Ken obviously fell from 3 to 2 by mistake. Maybe there are too many sharp knives in the CCF drawer. Ken: your willingness to delve deeply and provide specifics for those in need is astounding and truly commendable. It’s help like you provide that brought me to this forum when I owned a Water-logged, under-powered Supra. |
