| Hey everyone, I’m new here. Been lingering for a long time and finally made an account. The throttle cable on my barracuda broke last weekend. I’ve got the replacement and started the job. Both ends are disconnected and I began to look st how to pull the new cable through. Come to find out it runs right under the floor and also has a bracket holding the cable down underneath the floor which I can feel with my fingers. Can anyone tell me how in the hell youre supposed to replace this cable without pulling the floor up. Is this the original routing?? I’m a little flabbergasted by this design. Any help is greatly appreciated. I’ll try to upload some pictures. |

Kyle, Your link to the picture doesn't work for me but, leave the old cable in place and see if you can fish the new through under the floor. Don't forget to replace the brass coupling end of the cable. What's under the carpet? Your Cuda would have had vinyl on the floor and it could be peeled back. | I think I fixed the links. Thank you. There is vinyl over the plywood? The carpet was real stuck down and did not want to tear it. Also it did not feel like there was a channel in the plywood. Just in the fiberglass under it |

Your original link worked for me Cute kid and lots of heavy artillery along with the throttle cable photos  That shouldn't be too hard to run an electrical fish tape through there and pull a new cable through. Easy to say from here

Oh jees thanks. I forgot about all those photos. Building guns is a lot easier than boats let me tell you. There is almost zero room on the hull side to get the rigid part of the cable bent up and out. If I can even find a way to get that bracket out from under there that’s holding the cables down. It’s too small to get the crimped parts through.

Since you can feel the bracket with your fingers, it can't be too far in. Bad part is it’s on the hull side not 4 inches in. I might sacrifice a long screwdriver and bend it to make a prey bar to fit under the floor. Hopefully the screw holding the bracket down will break. |

Kyle, Have you removed the Morse control yet? A thought just came to me and wondering if the cable is actually broken and the problem is just the brass cable connector?

| I had to work really late today (Putting in a new sewer main in the street through a ton of ledge) fun times. So no progress on the boat but I’ve been thinking about it and while I’m not happy about it- I think I’m just going to peel the carpet back a bit and cut a triangle shape notch in the floor to make this possible. Then glue the carpet back down. I don’t think it will really be too noticeable or big enough to step in. I’ll let you guys know how I make out. |

| In case anyone was wondering, I did cut a small portion of the floor- I actually used a drill bit right above where I thought the screw for the clamp was then cut from the center of that to the hull making a V or triangle notch. There WAS Another damn clamp right in the middle of course- why wouldn't there be. I used a long screwdriver and a hammer to pry it up and ultimately eliminated it. I was able to slide the new cable freely over to the hull and gently pulled it up against the hull and back to the controls. Hopefully this helps the next poor guy that finds themselves replacing a cable on their barracuda. Thanks for the help everyone. |
