What I use:
Filter K&N 3001
Oil Mobil 1 15W-50
Valvoline VR-1 20W-50 (full. Synthetic)
Royal Purple HPS 20W-50
Need ZDDP “zinc” level 1,200+ ppm (for flat tappet cam)
I do a full fluid change (engine & transmission) at the end of each season for a cold lay-up.

Most will recommend Dextron III. I use a fully synthetic that is Dextron III compatible. Some will say that the fully synthetic is too "slick" and that one should stick with the Dextron III. No issues with my rig with the full synthetic after several years of use. I use the Royal Purple MAX ATF. The PCM 1.23:1 tranny takes 2 quarts.

You can also run Delo or Rotella or Castrol Diesel Engine Oil, comes in 15-40. It works fine in flat tappet engines. ( standard Lifters, not Rollers ) It is about 1/2 the cost of the fancy oils but works and is available everywhere, like Walmart. For a Filter both Wix and Hastings offer good high quality filters. Wix is available at all Napa Parts Stores.

Thank you! I know an owner who has never changed his....so in three years I have not changed mine. I just want to do it before she snuggles in to her winter slumber.

Yes, takes forever, warm oil pumps or drains much better. Trans does not matter.

It is better to have the engine sit on clean oil all winter. You should turn it over once clean oil is in there to distribute the clean oil through the engine. Used oil has contaminants in it that can etch an engine bearing when the boat sits for long periods. If you are draining it with a cold engine just be patient. Open the drain hose into a bucket and leave it for a few days. Then add your new oil. It will drain, it will just take hours rather than minutes.

Going by hours and not months is better for determining if an oil change is needed. Also, todays oils do have additives to keep the acids in check that oils way back did not have.

I agree Pete and I admit that if my Boat only has 20 hours on it this year on my fresh oil it will probably run on that oil again next year. But if it has dirty oil change it before storing.
