I just called SkiDim yesterday to order a new steering cable. Randy helped me out and he reported a change in the bolt pattern of the "new" cables from the helm side. He said I need to convert the helm to the new style listed here.

Then it will accommodate the "new" steering cable listed here.

I'm sure he is correct, but wanted to run it by you guys before ordering. I did measure the bolt pattern with him on the phone. I confirmed my current cable has a different shape.

What do you think?

When I switched to the new style cable I had to change out the helm as well. Zach confirmed this. I assume this is for the 176.

Yeah, Chris. It was on the Super Sport. The older cables were getting harder to find and were costly too.

Iirc the skinny rack was 93-97. Swapping to a 90590 p/n cable requires swapping out to a later helm stub on the back (compatible with existing tilt helm).

Current cable design is the teleflex “extreme” and is still used in current CC production.

Late 90 maybe but 91-92 used an odd Morse helm. Generally used a push through pin to retain the cable In the helm rather than a nut like the teleflex Big T 82-90.

I made the helm change-out on my 1994 a couple of years ago. No complaints. New steering cable is still glass-smooth.

Thanks guys!

I'm waiting for that spring tune up sale that usually comes around. The old girl needs some attention this year.

By the looks of things, you might have more time off this Spring to catch up on all that delayed maintenance. Who knows what the next step will be in the aviation world but it’s not pretty. I’ve got customers who won’t leave their own homes
Let alone travel across the water with me.

Just did one in my 97 SN. Not too bad. Don’t move the tube. I got the entire head unit and cable. Basically everything new but the rudder and steering wheel.
