I have a 76 SN with a 351W. The dipstick does not seem to fit right. There are two scribed marks on it above the normal add / full marks. Can someone give me the measured length from the top of the tube to the fill and full marks? is there an aftermarket dipstick that will have the correct levels on it?

so the picture shows the dipstick with the two marks that look like they were added. detailed picture shows measure of how far from the top of the tube. I am also concerned that the top of the dipstick doesn't cover the tube. shouldn't there be a little sleeve that slips over the top to seal out dirt?

I'm assuming your engine is a PCM 351, if it is the below info might be good. If it's a Commander 351, it probably won't work for you. Based on your numbers it should be a PCM, the Commanders had a lot longer dipstick and tube than yours.
the link is to one of those "other" websites with some good information about a 351W mounted at an angle like yours is complete with measurements of the original dipstick like you're looking for.
