Dan, Are you having problems with alignment? Just wondering why you want to get away from the wood.

Hi,
Yes I having an issue with alignment
I replaced all the stringers and made new wood front mounts to the exact size of the original mount .New mounts are made out of white oak .
I replace the strut bearing and centered the the prop shaft in the shaft log. The prop (12x14) is set at about 1 inch from the end of the strut. This gives me about 1 inch clearance between the prop and the hull. Is this all correct so far?
The motor sits at 15 degree angle BUT I need the trans to be about 1/4 lower I considered cutting the stringer but that increases my motor angle .

Per your description sound like both ends of the engine need to go down.

1” from the strut to prop is on the excessive side. Likely set up that way from the factory but not ideal if you are trying to dial it in and set it up properly. Minimizing clearance would be better if you can... just enough to get a puller on is fine. Aim for 3/8”-1/2”.

Thanks for all the info !!!
OK so I should move the prop to within 1/2 inch of the strut? correct.? is so then this raises my prop shaft up a little bit and that helps close my 1/4 gap. Can motor angle max out at 20 degrees if needed? How close can prop come to hull of the boat ? I am at 1 inch now . .

Dan, Yes, you can move the shaft forward but as you mentioned, it reduces the hull to prop clearance. It's a "toss up" as to what's better. Go say a 1/4" forward and see what happens.
The angle of the engine MUST MATCH the angle of the prop shaft. The shaft MUST BE parallel to the engine.

Moving the engine forward to dial strut/shaft/prop geometry isn’t proper either... engine belongs where it belongs and shaft length should be tuned accordingly.
Pete should be able to do the math and see how much prop to hull clearance is impacted by moving the prop back 1/2” (strut angle is 15°). Hint: it’s not much
Like Pete said I don’t think you’ve quite grasped the concept of proper alignment...

This comment was like a light bulb Turing on for me.
"The angle of the engine MUST MATCH the angle of the prop shaft. The shaft MUST BE parallel to the engine".
Got it

Dan, Have you watched the alignment video? There's a link in the FAQ thread in the maintenance section.
