My 96 Sport is on its original Ramlin single (5200) axle trailer. It needs new tires. Its got ST225/75R15. The current tires are rated load range C which can't be correct. C = 2150 each = 4300 lbs D = 2540 each = 5080 lbs E = 2830 each = 5660 lbs Dry boat weight is 2700 lbs and trailer is about 1200 lbs. Add full tank at 210 lbs and random stuff in boat takes weight (~4200 lbs) to the very limit of C load range with little to no buffer. Also, since the axle is a 5200 lb axle, I assume load range D would be the correct tire spec. Problem is this...I need to tow the boat home this weekend. Local tire shop near the boat's current location has the tire in-stock in Load Range E. They are giving it to me for same price as load range D. E is obviously overkill, especially considering C is on it now. (They do have C in stock by the way). Is it okay to go with the E load range even though I don't need it? Or is C really okay afterall? (I live about 1.25 hours from the lake, so there will be some highway driving occasionally when the boat is taken home...its not like the boat only ever travels 1 mile to boat launch). ------------- 1996 Sport Nautique GT40 EFI |

I just got a set of the new Goodyear, made is the good ole USA, Endurance E rated (80 psi) for my ride down to the Rukus. My old D rated tires looked and towed great but were too old. My other boat is perfectly matched weight wise to the C rated tires and those damn things always go at 5 years old -- often on the side of the road. Last time I upgraded to Good Year's (the new ones were not yet available so I got the Marathons -- made in the corona rim) and I keep them 5 psi over the 50 limit to try and help get a good 5 years out of them. My experience is the excess load capacity way outperforms over time. ------------- Hotty Toddy lets go skiing! |

I recently purchased 8 Goodyear Endurance trailer tires made in Akron, OH for my 2 tandem boat trailers. They were a little more expensive but I think well worth it. I am through purchasing made in China garbage trailer tires. If you are not towing a long distance and if you have been using the trailer with the current tires if it were me I would take a spare tire or 2 with you on your trip. Drive slowly and get to your destination safely. Buy made in the USA Goodyear’s when you get there and you should be good for years to come. Also, I think most people that regularly tow trailers long distances would frown upon using light truck tires on a trailer. ------------- Jim '06 216 '98 SN 176 |

This topic can become a points vs. electronic or which oil to use in a nano second. Go with the E, not much more money. Not sure I agree using LT’s, is there any information to go with that thought. I must be the only person who has repeatedly been burned by Goodyear whether LT or ST. Every swinging monkey on this website says use Goodyear. The goodyear Marathons of recent are not the same as the Marathons of old. They went from being a us made tire to being outsourced. The new Endurance line is back to being a us made tire of higher quality. ------------- Hotty Toddy lets go skiing! |

E load all the way , its extra insurance in the heat i had one lay over when bearing went never punctured it pretty amazing. Kenda Karrier on 2 trailers . read the reviews, I have been running them for 4 years not one quality issue wearing great. Its a common topic in RV forums lots of opinions . I'm not sure if I buy all the feedback but the 65mph max speed on ST tires is a concern . |

The heavier load range is added insurance however tires and trailer tires have speed,ratings as well. Ask the dealer what they are. You don't want a load range E tire with a speed rating of 55mph then rip down the interstate at 75! Just need to find the balance between the 2. ------------- Old school goin back to school! |

Got the tires yesterday. When I went to get them the guy double checked with me to make sure I really wanted the ones I ordered a night to get your endurance. I was confused and told him I thought I was getting the Goodyear endurance. Apparently Goodyear has another tire that is a very poor tire like all the rest. He brought both tires out and oh man it was crazy just to see the difference in the tire before it was put on the wheel. You could take the sheep or Chinese version and push the entire tire flat with pretty much one hand. The endurance you could sit on it and it wouldn’t collapse. Due to the confusion with the order he ended up offering me the endurance for just $20 a tire more instead of the $65 that it was supposed to be. I hope Goodyear and Carlisle have gotten better they used to be garbage. I have had much better luck with the cheap Chinese tires. Never had a problem with one. I just sold a boat to a guy in Texas yesterday. The trailer had 6 year old no names on it. I drove 400 miles in 100 degree heat and handed over to the new owner who drove another 800 miles. So 1200 miles non-stop through the Southwest. No tire failures. I would still have a hard time buying Carlisle or Goodyear even if they are made in the USA just because they caused me so many problems in the past. I have had problems with the cheap valve stems that tire shops install so I always go to an auto parts store and buy the metal valve stems and give them to the installers. Have not had anything good to say about Goodyear in alot of years but I figured it was built for price oem tires on the Fords and GM stuff I've had.
