I have a 1989 Ski Nautique 351W. I currently have (had, we found some rocks) an Acme 2068 that was installed by the previous owner for max speed (I could almost get it to 50mph).

Can you recommend a prop for best performance at 15-25mph? We trick ski and wakeboard, not much slalom speed needed.

I’ve seen 422 and 1868 recommended. There are so many variables I don’t know how to choose. My understanding is this boat is the first year with the 1:1.23 trans, and so uses different props than other 2001s.

Anyone have a favorite?

I have the 422, it is a nice prop, tops out around 46 with the 310 HP Pro Boss.  Very strong out of the hole and quiet always.

654 is a good choice as it’s a “tweeter” in between the 422 and 1868.

Good call. I think Acme is recommending this also.

Is 4 blade going to benefit me? I don’t do ballasts. I’m hoping for better speed control in the 17-22mph range, but maybe that’s always an issue without Perfect Pass.

4 vs 3 blade is always a fun discussion.  That being said...how many LARGE wake boats are sold with a 3-blade prop as stock configuration?  Go with the 4-blade.  If you really want low-end grunt and slower speed performance, consider the 1868.  Just watch the tach as you can over-rev by several hundred RPMs with a good engine and the 1868 (voice of experience).  Hole shot will be very strong...

I went for the 654. The 2068 is not repairable (not surprised).

So my spare is an old non-Acme that was lightly repaired by my uncle. It works but it’s rough.

Do you all keep nice spares?

What is your max RPM for a 351W? I stay under 4500, and that’s just short bursts for fun. Daily usual RPM is under 3000.

You'll get better performance if you let it spin a little, 5000 is safe. My 1600 hour 351 will turn my Acme 422 to 5400 and my 1868 to almost 5600. The 1868 is a bit too short, I try not to run WOT on the top end. It's a great low speed and holeshot prop, though.

You can also see in the photos how off the stock tach is compared to the PerfectPass.

I had ACME 1442 on my 1989 2001 & it was just right for us (wakeboarding with moderate ballast).

The 422 was just too much prop.

My '89 had the 240hp 351w.  I tried the 422 and as mentioned it was too much prop.  I went back to the OJ that came with it.  Don't remember exactly what it was but it worked better.

Nelly,  what HP engine sins a 422 to 5,600 rpm?  In what hull?  My 310HP in the 95 196 only turns around 5,000, maybe a touch more on a good day.
I used to spin 5,300 rpm when I ran the acme 224.  I liked that prop but had it repaired again and it is not the same.

Curious. What do you mean when you say  - too much prop ?

Feels like I am hanging 10 but in reality - probably hanging 6.

The engine did not have good throttle response at wakeboard speeds 18-20 mph.

94 Sport, 351 Pro Boss carb. The Sport rides a little less bow heavy than a Ski, probably worth a couple of MPH. My 422 has been repaired a handful of times, I'm sure that's not helping the RPMs stay down, either.

Good eye, it was replaced about 6 or 7 years ago. Closest one I could get from NautiqueParts, I think.
