Getting back into skiing and need a boat for slalom with a budget of around $30,000. Which models had significant hull changes (improvements) made ? And when was 0-OFF first available ? Did any of 196 models have it ? I sold my 3 previous ski boats with around 500 hours logged. How many hours is considered "high mileage" when buying a ski boat ? Thanks ------------- 2 at 38off 35 years ago - planning on making a comeback. |

With a price of around $30k, does that mean high 30’s? That’ll put you in Ski Nautique 200 (2010+). 2007+196’s could have ZO if original owner opted. But 2006-2009 196’s basically selling today for what they did brand new in 06. I want stay under $30,000. Regarding Hours Logged - I have never had a boat past 500 hours - I always switched boats every few years, to get a smaller wake, back when small wakes were an evolving feature with ski boats. If I find a pristine 2005 boat (no flaws) with 1200 hours, is that anything to worry about when the mechanicals have been carefully serviced for the last 15 years ?

Just some FYI info above, tho with a budget of $30000 most of that won't matter. Looking at several ski it again prices, you should be able to get into a TSC 3 (2006-2009) pretty easily. Would I spend that much? | Very accurate Gary. I’d personally recommend a TSC 2 model as there are some issues with GT 40 powered boats, specifically the ECM availability. After all these engines are over 20 years old. Just my opinion of course. I had a GT 40 in my 97 SN and it was a great motor. |

I don't know that I would shy away from a 196 because of a GT40. Plus in my book unless you want ZO, which it sounds like the OP wants. There is a solution for replacement ECMs now anyway using a flashed Mustang computer. The GT40 is an indestructible motor. I raced one for years and can tell you the use a typical ski boat puts on that motor is nothing. That said the Excalibur engines are good too. | Yeah that’s what I was thinking, the 350 GM engine will never be a problem. Jody or the guy in Zmontgomery can get you set up with ZO for less than 10k. I know several slalom skiers who train behind TSC 2 boats with ZO. When they go to tournaments they don’t have any issues. I love my 2004 196. Did 2 sets this afternoon. Simply cannot beat the wakes. |

I have an 02 TSC2 with the PCM Chevy “Excalibur” that I had converted to Zero Off. It is the best boat I’ve owned. The GT40 engine felt stronger, honestly (I’m a Chevy guy), but you can’t ZO them. I ski into 32 off every set, and through it on blue moons. I also ski tournaments behind all 3 current boats and can honestly say, my boat is better. I’m clearly biased in my opinions, but a TSC (1) hull with a GT-40 is a great boat with a bomb-proof engine and an outstanding wake. I just got back from a week long ski trip where we had a 2001 SN, my 196 SN TSC hull, and a 206 SN with the TSC3 hull. All the serious skiers wanted pulls behind the 196 TSC1 hull. Outstanding hole-shot with the Acme 654 at 3,600 feet of elevation.
