Joe,
That's a spring pin / roll pin in the aluminum pylon and not a socket hex head set screw. So, use the largest pin punch you can and continue. The pylon may have to come out so you can get it on a solid surface so you don't get any flex when hammering. Then, the actual ring will come out BUT it can be difficult. Some have resorted to using a winch or "come-a-long' to apply pressure while slowly twisting the ring back and forth.

Joe,
When you get the pin out, get some penetrating oil in there. Sometimes it does help. Kroil is best or a 50/50 mix of ATF and acetone is even better.

What ever you do do not destroy or disfigure the ring finger “ski ring”as you call it as their worth their weight in gold.

Joe,
Just so you understand the comment Paul made above, here's why. As you have found out, the ring/fingers can be very difficult to remove so some have become frustrated and have resorted to cutting them off! Ouch Now since they are no longer made someone wanting to restore their CC needs to spend some $$ IF they can find one.

if you don't feel like going through the aggravation of pulling the pylon, punching the pin out and then having to get the ring out of the pylon, you could think about one of the Tachyon Super Deluxe Boom Mounts like in the link below

For the time and aggravation involved in getting the ring out, compared to the price of the SDBM, you'll probably come out miles ahead, spending the money

And besides, you could have a really tall extended pylon Wink.........or shorten what you have now.

Just another option to consider.
