Just replace the strut bearing on my 2000 SN 196.  I am noticing a bit of noise at low RPM since doing strut bearing/ Is it normal to have a wear in period ?  Thank You

Charlie,
When you hear the noise, is the cutless bearing dry or wet. If dry, the bearing needs water to lubricate it. If wet, then did you do a strut/shaft/engine alignment?

I don't think he removed the shaft. A really good guy did the job so I'm guessing he did it right. The noise is when at low rpm in the water not noticeable except for me a slightly different sound than I am used to hearing. Thank You

Just because the shaft wasn't removed doesn't mean it is aligned correctly. It could be binding and wearing out your new bearing.

Charlie,
I totally agree with Paul.

You shouldn't be hearing anything. I'd suggest calling that "really good guy" and find out how he checked the alignment.

You had better check the alignment. Bad alignment will SNUB virbration and NOT cause it.

Charlie,
There are many out there that are under the impression that bad alignment causes vibration. When I hear this, I often use the analogy of a tuning fork. When you press your finger on the side of a vibrating tuning fork which is a misalignment, the vibration stops. The typical causes of vibration are a bent out of balance prop, a bent prop shaft and then a worn cutlass allowing radial play of the prop shaft.
