Subject: 302 rear main seal

I just recently purchased a 76 ski Tique that the previous owner let the engine freeze and crack the block. I think I have found another block but I am having trouble finding the 2 piece rear main seal for a reverse rotation engine. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

I question that part number because Summit,O'Reilly's,Jegs,Advance etc all show that it is available but in their description does not list reverse, only marineengineparts state it is.

This may be rather silly of me, but the 2 piece rear main seals are smooth and the oil control/wick/helix lines are on the crankshaft so why spend the bucks on a "marine" seal when you can use an automotive 2 piece seal for quite a bit less money?

What year block are you looking at?

If you look it up by part number all except eBay are within a few dollars of each other - eBay is 10 - 11 cheaper.

But if you look up a rear main seal for a 77 ford 302 and come up with a FelPro part number like BS30136 or 2901 for example, it's a bunch cheaper. (edited to add the 2901 seal)

Must be paying for some "marine rubber" Wink

I wonder what the difference between the two is- Felpro is not calling it marine

Using Summit prices for consistency

Felpro 17746 labeled "marine" ..........51 dollars

Felpro 30136 not labeled marine...... 18 dollars

Felpro 2901 not labeled marine.........27 dollars

I think you're paying for that word Wink

Thanks for all the help. I’m going to dig around a little more and see what I can come up with

Must be safe to assume you're looking at a block built sometime before 1983?
