I was running across the lake yesterday with no problems and out of nowhere the boat just stopped and engine revved up. I placed shifter in neutral and tried to put it back in fwd and could hear knocking. It did not go in fwd Back to neutral and the knocking was still there. Boat will not go in any gear now. It knocks from transmission area and the output shaft moves slightly on and off while engine is running Any thoughts?

Tom,
I'd say the trans is fine but the damper plate isn't. Pulling the bell housing and trans will confirm.

Welome to CCfan. What boat is it?

It’s in a 1986 correct craft martinique. Trans was rebuilt in 2016.

Was a new damper installed when the trans was done? For around $100, it's always a good move.

I don’t see it on the receipt. It was done by the previous owner. But I was provided a receipt rebuild was about 2300.

If you click on the link below, you'll find an old thread with pretty much everything you need to know about getting to your damper plate and replacing it. Wink
