A wet sand and buff will yeild better and durable results. A neighbor painted his 70 Cuda with Imron and it looked like $hit within 2 years. 1981 faded paint more on back end than sides. gelcoat is dull on top. completing motor work and interior. |

Sounds quite recoverable.  Yes color I think to be ivory. Darn. You did such a good job on this refinishing issue.... I suppose you might know where to find an emblem like this. thanks for the help

So he used it for a total of 2 weeks when the ice was out? Sounds more like your neighbor either - can't drive or just doesn't take care of anything  . Shamrock just spent 7 years in south Florida and sat in a carport through hurricane Irma. Not a scratch in it's Imron. It's all how you take care of them - can't buff dock rash out of the Dumphy can you?As to the original poster - it will be cheaper and most likely faster and easier to buff yours out, you are probably talking 2k easily in supplies alone to Imron yours and the fact Imron cannot be submerged for any length of time. My Shamrock has bottom paint,you wouldn't want that on your boat. I always like to use these two pictures to show what can be done with sanding and polishing. Joe, Gary's Mustang he uses as an example is an extreme case but does show what can be done with the wet sand and buff. Also, would you believe that the condition of the Mustang in the picture above was from being in the water for only 2 days! He lives on the Fox river down stream of the Fox Chain of lakes in Illinois.

My nephew bought a 1978 Keaton Jet boat that had some damage and he wanted a color change so he painted it. It has had little use in less than 10 years but already has scratches that look bad and are not easy to fix. Fresh painted it looked new, 10 years later it looks OK but gel coats age so much better. ------------- |

Roger that. I lived in Houston 12 hears but most of my time was spent on the industrial side of Galveston. We operate inland River barges, ICW barges and ocean-going vessels. EVERYTHING rusts there.
