Hi Gang,

You all have been amazing!  Thank you. So the two problems I posted before have been solved.  Windshield broken on left side...local glass shopped fixed it for me for $121.00 and the distributor has been replaced.  Thank you all.

So I have never replaced the shaft seal.  I am looking to order one.  I am guess that size is a 1" shaft seal.  Believe it or not I have the original one on there.

Thanks Gang,

-Sean

Sean,
Unless you have a "dripless" prop shaft seal, the seal is actually a rope seal inside the packing gland where the shaft enters the bilge.  Is your's leaking? It should drip some since the rope packing is water lubricated.

Take a look:

Here's a better video on an actual prop shaft:

So quick question....what about that rubber hose piece below the coupling where the shaft goes out the boat.  That has never been changed and is looking awfully weak.

Thanks!

Never a bad idea but, you need to pull the shaft and with a single taper shaft, that can be a job.

If it's looking awfully weak, you might as well do it now instead of later, otherwise it makes for a big hard to stop leak when it decides to let go.
