Something happened with my steering linkage or cable. It turns right to the lock but left of just spins forever and does not move the rudder. I tried to take it all apart in back but could not get down to cable. It seems like the cable is no longer connected to the rod that moves the rudder? So it can PUSH to turn right but can’t PULL to turn left.

Thought on what I can do to repair this?

Thanks.

It moves freely in back as long as the wheel is not turned all the way right.

Nate,
From your description, I'd say there's a chance the cable is broken. The fix will be a new cable.

That's like the weatherman or woman saying there's a chance of flurries while you're up to your knees in snow Wink

It's broke

1989 means you get to buy the "only available from CC special cable". In this case that translates to expensive.

In your case with a rotary helm, you'll disconnect the cable at both ends, tape a rope to the helm end of the cable and pull the cable out from the rear. When it's out, the rope gets removed and taped to the helm end of the new cable and you pull the rope from up at the helm to get the new cable fed into place.

So you remove the old one from the rear and insert the new one from the rear.

Thanks! This is what I was thinking. I had to consult the wisemen.

This one right? Price seems fine. I could get a newer boat instead for $100k.
