68 HM Mustang. Researching easier/better method for draining oil. There are  a couple “quick drain” plug systems  out there but,as you know, there is very little space. Is anybody using something that works?
Thanks!

Paul,
What method have you been using? Sucking?

Yes, and I find it can leave at least a half a quart in the pan along with whatever else is in the oil. Doesn’t seem to be optimal method.

Long time ago I put one on mine-I think I got it from Skidim. I have a feeling I put it on when I had the engine out because there is not alot of room to work on it. You will have to find out if you have the original pan with SAE threads or a later pan with metric. Here is a picture of mine but does not show much.

My 1987 Malibu had the engine mounted so low in the bilge that you could not remove the drain plug without unbolting the engine mounts and lifting the engine.  I bought one of those suction pumps that slip down the dip stick tube, it was slow and I know it did not fully drain the engine but it was better than nothing.  I do not miss that boat at all.

Hey Gary
Thanks for the response! I was not aware of Skidim and I checked with them. Finding marine applicable solutions is a much better
than what what I had seen.
Thanks again
Paul

Wow, can’t believe they didn’t include a drain system under those circumstances.

Paul,
The "drain system" is relatively new. Sucking has been around since the advent of the marine engine. Using the suction method got even easier when the reverse gear was invented and shared oil with the engine. You pull the inspection plate off the trans and use the manual suction gun;

Change the trans and engine oil at the same time!

Paul,
Keep in mind my post above talks about the days when engine oil was shared with the trans. Unless you have one of the old flatheads, the technique of sucking the oil out of the trans doesn't work.
