We haven't heard from Pete (8122pbrainard) for several weeks. I hope he's OK and doing well up in c-c-c-c-cold Wisconsin.
Pete: hurry back...

He was winterizing his boats in the boathouse. His buddy Charlie came by and dared him to stick his tongue on the Tique's ski pole. He's still out there since he only has a land line. There is hope he can be ID'd by his monogram attire

I have my thoughts, but that's all they are, so they'll stay in my head
You have funny weeks out there in Utah Jonny, it's been 10 days since his last post

Like so many before him, he’s gone to the Dark Side. I’ve seen him posting over on FB.

I live my life in dog years…I’ve been rode hard and put away wet. Hell, yesterday seems like last month.

Yep Pete has expanded his digital foot print and is blowing up on Face Book. I think Tik Tok is next for Pete.

I have held off for a bit but the obvious situation with Pete is simple. Although Pete has offered his time and advice countless times on this forum and has earned a place of respect, the fun went out of it for Pete. Over the past couple years every time Pete answered anything he was hammered on. I think Pete just got fed up and walked away. Nobody likes taking shots every time their head pops up. When I came to this forum with a broken 95 Nautique Pete was a solid contributor that walked me through fixing my boat properly and I will always appreciate that since I was lost on proper strut, prop and shaft work. We all can offer mistaken advice from time to time but I always knew Pete’s advice came from good intent and most of the time it was accurate. I always appreciated it. Hope he is healthy and makes his way back to this forum.

Mark. I think there is something to what you are saying. I think it is perfectly fine to have a different opinion than someone else, or even correct someone else if they make a mistake, but i dont think that needs to be accompanied by ridicule, belittling, bullying, sarcasm, or criticizing. That does come across as kind of junior high schoolish, where you have to put someone else down to stroke your own ego. I hate to say this about someone (the other person) who is so knowledgeable, has helped so many and especially helped me in many ways, both with information and even providing parts, but there is some truth to it. Hopefully this will be regarded as positive, constructive criticism/lessons learned. Pete is a CCF institution and his absence is a significant loss.

Larry
There's only one ego involved here and it's not mine.
Pete sure liked to give it, but not take it.
You have a PM with my phone number, in case you don't still have it.
Give me a call

I am very thankful for the advice, wisdom, and camaraderie shared via this forum. I hope Pete makes it back but from my perspective it seems as though the “other person” always helps in very nice and non condescending way. That wasn’t always the case with Pete IMO and I think Keno pointed out some of that stuff with solid evidence. Here’s to hoping it all gets back to normal and we all get back to keeping the old boats cruising the waters of the world!

Being a senior member, going on 6 years now I have never gotten better advice then from Pete. Pete has ALWAYS had good, solid info for anyone that asked for help, myself included. I came to this forum years ago looking for advice on many things I needed to "fix" on my new to me 1993 SN. Pete was one of the first ones there with a Hello and Welcome to the forum. He was one of the first to always offer sound advice that was spot on 99% of the time. He has helped me many times, and never gave me snide remarks, or answers that made me feel less than adequate. If he truly has left these forums he will be sorely missed, and his experience and knowledge will be missed as well. For those of you that don't know Pete, you will never know someone who had as much knowledge about these boats as he did. I sure hope he decides to come back.

I, too appreciate all the advise and encouragement gained here, from all. Sometimes banter, while fun, can get overwhelming. And, sometimes a break from it all is refreshing and good. That said, I know how I can fix it all; Does anyone know which oil and oil filter is best for my 92 Nautique? I like the orange color of the Fram?

Jerry, your boat has a Ford engine that has plastic camshaft and graphite rockers. You need to use a special oil or it will fail prematurely. Most people here use mazola oil with 1% viagra additive which helps the rockers stand up straighter. As for filter, they aren't needed on marine engines so you can just jam a 3/4" npt cap with a gasket over the filter housing and forget it.

Agreed, exept the sarcasm part. Sarcasm is way too much fun
