The threads on the end of my boat's throttle and shift control arm have gotten stripped.
Is there a simple fix that will allow the knob to be tightened onto it and removed later if/when the control assembly needs to be replaced?
Thanks

Buck:

The threads are 3/8-24.  Using a 3/8-24 die, chase the threads to clean them up.  The shift knob doesn't need 300 pound-feet of torque, so go easy on the re-install.  It's also possible that the threads of the shift knob are buggered up, so you may want to run a tap in the knob and clean up those threads.

OR...you can be really cool and install one of these old school Hurst shift knobs (Part # 1630002):

Guess what shift knob is on MY boat?

Good idea on the die, JQ. Pretty sure the threads of the shift knob are good because the original and a newly purchased wood knob fit the same.

I tried to order one like yours, but they kept sending this one...Big smile
