Posting for Dan Monahan

A few weeks back Dan made the trip to NC to pick up the boat pictured below.  Dan can speak to the specifics on the boat but what I found to be interesting (not visible in the below picture) is that this is (was?) equipped with a second throttle control on the passenger / judge side of the boat.

Dan - take it from here

Click on the link for some recent discussion about the passenger side throttle complete with pictures

I'll guess it's maybe the same boat that Dan bought Wink

I heard it was on Craig's list for Greenville, NC. Kristy Overton's family boat at one time. H&M Powered too.

I am still upset about it. LOL

How many promos are there ? Every model ? Every year ? Or just way back when ?
Is there a promo roll call/ registry/ whereabouts list ?

Obviously a piece that needs to be kept in original condition, congratulations.

Guess it depends on the Definition of "Promo". My masters used 1988 could be considered a "Promo" boat. The owners manual had making tape on the cover that had written 1988 Red/White SN Promo written on it. Was that by the Dealer? Build sheet I got from Art says masters on it so I'd say it was a Promo. That being said... the majority of us consider the 71-73 SN all Orange or Yellow Promo's Most have the extended pylon and the additional Speedo on the engine cover for the tournament official viewing riding shotgun. When someone here shouts Promo most of us know exactly what they're talking about.

Nautique towed big time tournaments usually have sponsorship decals plastered all over it  like the masters, or even those donated by Nautique for Wake for Warriors or In His Wakes or others would be considered Promos IMHO. I guess even the PN G-23boat would be considered a Promo as it has all the PN graphics an extras on it. No registry whatsoever to my knowledge.

"Promo" boats are a dime a dozen- think Cypress Gardens. Regular members know every CC on for sale has the coveded providence. Cousin Donald can help with documentation.

pro·mo
/ˈprōmō/
noun
a piece of publicity or advertising, especially in the form of a short film or video.
"a promo video"

Under websters i can see every magazine, commercial, or boat used in ski tournaments considered a promo boat.

I'll go with the 71-73 orange and/or yellow hulls being on the coveted list, or the hin is written down somewhere in the sacred scrolls.

Let's see the pics

There might be other promos, but the orange is the Promo.

I was happy to help my brother Dan with retrieving this 72 Promo find! For those who do not know Dan or me/Scott and Gene, we are all passionate of older Correct Craft boats. Dan has been buying and selling old  hulls/potential restorations project for years and has accumulated a lot of Cool old part for late 60's Barracuda's. He recently bought a 72 Skier that he/we will be trying to make lake worthy next. The Promo was his best find yet!!! it was the first one that he actually bought that Runs and Floats, I can guarantee all that this one will not get parted out and will be kept as original as possible while it is being tweaked back to it's original state. Its only original once! For those who know me know.

Gary,

Yes, and for the record, I do declare Dan's boat a true Promo Boat. LOL
The value just went up with my stamp of approval.

Glad to help,

Donald

Not sure what comprises a "promo" officially but my first CC was a green '71 with three speedos and the tall pole. The Ski Nautique lettering was in a more like scrip form. I purchased it at the completion of the Nationals which was held on Myers Lake in Canton, Ohio that year [and numerous others]. There were five identical boats there and I had my pick..looked them all over and chose the one with the least hours and scratches and towed it home. They were all the same price...$4200 and had all been used throughout the tournament season. I had always assumed this to be a "promo". After my purchase another West Shore Ski Club member [Ralph Shick] ended up tracking down one of the others and we ended up with two of them in our club. I posted a picture of mine on here long ago but would never be able to locate it at this point.
