Is hardwall hose really necessary for the raw intake and the feeds to the manifolds? Could the heavy duty stuff at tractor supply be sufficient? My brand new MPI hose arrived, but alas it is 1.25 and i need 1in so I'm scrambling around trying to find something. |

Well so far it's been said that you need a hose that won't collapse and it needs to be reinforced ............but with what? Wire, or can you use a good reinforced with nylon heater hose like Gates Green Stripe heater hose just as an example? Since water for all practical purposes isn't compressible, if you have that heater hose with no wire, it's not gonna collapse because of pump suction as long as it's full of water, unless you have a crazy sharp bend or kink in the hose that's really restrictive or you plug up the suction grate with some stray weeds or plastic or something. Now whether you have wire reinforced hose or the good heater hose mentioned above if you plug up the suction or restrict it enough so that the pump is sucking on the hose with no flow (and trying to collapse it), the first thing that you'll probably notice is the engine overheating So if you have a kink or sharp bend to make, the wire reinforced hose will resist the kinking better, otherwise the nylon reinforced heater hose should be just fine. I sure hope it's OK, since I've been using the non wire reinforced stuff for around 40 or so years now with smooth flowing non restrictive hose routing with no issues  Lots of those years were on a SN with hose routing just like Neil's boat And there are other engine outfits that don't use the wire stuff either Now if it's some thinwall flimsy easy to kink stuff that's a different story
