It seems like there's this big elephant in the room that nobody wants to talk about, so i guess I'll ask the question Wink

Is picture posting through the site software without using some photo hosting service, ever gonna come back?

It's not the first time this has happened, been known about  and gone unresolved for long stretches of time with people bringing it up on the site, sending e mails etc and nothing happening or at least being communicated

The elephant could have other questions too but this'll do for now

I hate to say it but the elephant in the room may be larger than just no pictures being uploaded.  Its been eerily quiet on here for a few weeks.

Here's a picture of that big boy. Wink

Done with IMGBB and still more than a bit of a PIA than it should be dealing with the CCF program/software or whatever to make it show up here.

Almost every group that I have been involved with has lost folks during and after Covid.  Covid changed a lot - people consume CC's and info / interactions in different ways now.  This site has been crippled by hackers, is poorly supported by it's users, is a niche "destination site" and we don't have reunions any longer.  Facebook, Instagram and other sites reach more folks and haven't had the limitations that this site has had.

I still love the folks (generally Wink ) on this site and have built lifelong friendships.  Things need to change or it will stay as a less and less visited niche site for nerd CCFans. My $ 0.02.

This has been mentioned before, I think some of it is a natural ebb and flow of enthusiasm.  This site had a core group of members, we all know the key names, that posted a ton, skied and boated a ton, went to reunions, became good friends.  While I wasn't very active outside the site I still feel I know people here and enjoy the friendship.  But Keith got this ball rolling 20-ish years ago (I think) and those super-enthusiastic folks who did the organizing and fueled a lot of the conversations are 20 years older now, life changes.  I think they weren't really replaced with a new generation.  Now maybe that's because of some of what Steve said about changing habits.  Personally I think it has less to do with covid and more that younger folks don't spend much time on old fashioned forums.

I just sent Keith a donation to help support this site. Perhaps we can all chip-in a few shekels as this site takes cash to stay open.  Have you seen the price of Purina Elephant Chow lately?

Good news. Ski Nat back watching action. Drought no water no boating
Yes, having to ask KENO to post pictures for me sucked. And the hack was discouraging.
But there’s not much on PN for me

Yeah I think the CC FB group has taken a lot of daily users but I still poke my head in here several times a day to see what is going on. I think a resurgence in CCFan would happen if it were easier to post photos directly to the site instead of using a 3rd party. But even the FB CC group sends questions here as you can follow up much easier on a thread then scrolling back and back to see respones.

Reunions still happen! Well at least one public one and it's been slow going as not a whole lot of movement to the SJRR gathering. The Nautique Regatta is back at Lanier again for 2023 so a few CCFans will head to that and eventually end up at the Morfoot Marina sometime during the weekend.

It is Winter for most of us and the only ones who might be skiing at Lewy and Kapla and Lewy hasn't even had the boat in the water this season. I guess Adam and I are gonna have to head back to Oz to get a boat wet. Last time we did we ended up killing Prince so that's why we haven't been back. Wink
Turning of the Sun has already happened so it won't be long before the My boat won't start threads start showing up.

It is hard for all traditional forums to survive in this instant gratification world. My favorite forum, FOILFORUM.com, is gone. The activity bled out to a subforum on FB. That forum then got flooded by posts from stand up foilers. No hate here. A lot of us ride a stand up foil after wearing ourselves out on the sit down foil. The worst part of that was losing the searchable data base of posts. So much awesome material and it took many years to accumulate. You see basic questions repeatedly asked on FB and most experienced foilers simply skip the whole thing. It is sad to lose that community and the information that was so kindly shared. I pop into CCF everyday. I owe a huge debt of gratitude to all the members whose posts have helped me so thoroughly enjoy my Nautique.
It is actually rather cool and rainy today in San Diego, but I want to share the video linked above from Dec 24th. My buddy T rockin it in 71 degree sunny temps at San Vicente reservoir here in SoCal. Stay classy out there :)

Reunions cinched the great friendships that were made early on in CCF and caused the site to grow.  Not having sponsored reunions for the past 12 years has prevented newer members from meeting each other and developing those same friendships. When it first started, many of us made true friends and even if I don't see them as often as I used to, they'll always be friends.  It was said many years ago that CCF was like a local bar, people come, and people go, and it is more popular at times than others. Hopefully, the forums activity will come back.  I'm not big into FB, and don't understand why it is a more popular venue than CCF, but I find the comments there in regard to knowledge about the brand and rebuilding boats generally not very good, nothing like you can find here.

Part of the allure of these small(er) sites is photos. The sharing of photo details is often more helpful and more immediately understood than a thread of a dozen textual posts.
I would support (however I could) a simpler, more robust photo insertion process.

All,
Well its been quite awhile since I have been on the site. Tried to post a picture (empty post above) and no luck.  Looks like some things have not changed (elephant).  Truth be told, I started using FB more about a year or so ago primarily due to FB Marketplace as I like to buy and sell winter and summer "toys" and the venue is very easy to use and has plenty to offer. As stated several times above, I do think age demographics is playing a key factor in the lack of activity in this site.  The wake boat craze over the past few years accompanied by younger generation becoming more captivated by what the latest social media craziness is and where it comes from has definitely played a factor as well.  Enough of my rambling.
Belated Happy New Year to all of you!
For those down south send some warm weather up to NW Indiana........please!

Yup, changed a lot through the years. I think I've given this speech before, but to recap.  One, you gotta figure, its coming up on 20 years.  That's a pretty good run, things are bound to change.  I really miss "the gang" and the chatter, banter and ribbing from yesteryear.  Very disappointed in the shift to Facebook.  I cant stand FB.  I dont like their outward political involvement (tho quite honestly, I guess it doesnt hurt me at all, so I suppose I shouldnt care, just the principle of it, I guess) I cant stand the fact that 3/4s of my page is either "sponsored" posts, or "suggested for you" crap  that I have no interest in, only serves as click bait to keep you there longer.  Its nothing but an advertising machine.  It is ruined.  Same management didnt ruin Instagram like that (tho I dont do instagram) Not sure why they had to ruin FB, but anyway.  But, despite all that, I still go there, as that is where the discussions on Nautiques, Classic CCs,  vintage boats, skiing (waterski hub and Hows my spray) barefooting (Barefoot Buds) vintage skiing and ski photos and on and on, are, and I enjoy looking at those.  What drives me nuts, is the misinformation over there, especially regarding old CCs.  So  much knowledge that is so completely wrong. I feel bad for people asking the questions because they get so much bad information.  I used to constantly tell people over there with questions to come over here, but I got out of that habit as I tend not to participate a much.

Sadly, I used to come here all the time to verify my statements, using the diaries or brochures, but since they are gone, those not much of a resource any more.  Hard to believe all that stuff wasnt backed up somewhere, especially the brochures, but oh well.  I certainly understand the photo challenges lowering the appeal of the site.  As far as Hollywood's comment about group texting, well that's fine, I suppose if you happen to be one of the six people in the group text, but there are a lot of us out here that are still interested in hearing about the Buckethead, or seeing videos of skiing or footing, or hearing about the activities of ski clubs or teams or seeing new purchases or seeing progress on projects, all of which is pretty limited now.

I do appreciate what has survived the test of time.  Some new members, old members offering good advice and fixes, references over on FB to come over here for the right answer, so I guess we should be grateful for that.

Most of us have no idea what all is involved in running this site so I am asking out of ignorance......why is so difficult to post media within a reply box?  Space?  Memory?

I visit everyday and have for years and certainly hope it continues.  The knowledge value alone is worth a ton and the camaraderie is priceless!  Lets all hope it keeps rolling.

Well, here I am sitting in the back of the room with the elephant and he says that it seems like there are a good number of people who really like the website, visit daily or pretty frequently and probably a whole big bunch who just pop on for some free, usually good advice, then disappear till the next problem. Then there are all those lurkers that just search for information , find what they're looking for and disappear

Like fanofccfan  ,me and the elephant know nothing about what's involved in running the site, but I do wonder how much commitment, dedication, effort (and whatever other words you want to throw in here) Keith gives to the site these days in what's probably a busy life with plenty of other stuff going on ?

is it out of the goodness of his heart.?

Now before anybody gets all hot and bothered and says I'm picking on Keith or CCF, let's just sat it's an effort to keep our favorite "best little niche website" healthy and profitable for he who runs it..

I'm sure I'm not the only one with the same thoughts, just the only one maybe dumb enough to actually ask the question we may or may not want to hear the answer to  Wink

I suppose only one person knows the answer

I’ll throw my $0.02 in here as a very longtime lurker. No doubt, this site has been invaluable to me over the years in troubleshooting and keeping my boats running. I feel a bit of guilt for not more actively contributing to making it the community it is.

Regarding the elephant, no doubt demographics and lack of in-person interaction has hurt online participation, but from an everyday experience standpoint, I have to believe a big issue we’re having is the underlying site/forum platform. Like everything, technology has evolved as has the way in which we use it. This site is still built on a platform designed for when we did all of this on desktop computers. The overwhelming majority of use these days is on mobile devices. I believe the reason much of our traffic has moved to Facebook and others is because the user interface of those platforms makes it so easy to comment, post pictures, etc. I know there have been many instances where I wanted to chime in on something here, but knowing the 10 minute battle it was going to take to get logged in and get the post made discouraged me from doing do.

This is no criticism of Keith as I can only imagine the cost to upgrade all of this is very high in money, time, expertise, etc. I’m just afraid the way in which we all interact, use our devices, etc. has evolved beyond what the current CCFan infrastructure offers. There is a direct correlation between use/participation and ease of use/usability.

Ken, you must really be wondering about it if its your first thought at 5:30 in the morning.  What are you wondering about?  Are you wondering why overnight all the old guard guys are suddenly not back helping, sharing stories, posting pictures,  ribbing other members?   Or are you wondering why the forum has not overnight been updated so we can post pictures from our phones?

It's kind of like leaving a party and saying "Gee, that was kind of a dull party"  Whose fault is that, the deadbeat dullards there who dont know how to have a good time, or the host because the music or food wasnt to their liking?

You politely but pointedly accused Keith of not keeping the site up, and you mused is he doing it out of the goodness of his heart.  I'd say that is probably pretty close. He's not doing it for the money, certainly.  It's been almost 20 years.  I think his priorities and interests have changed.  He's got two teen kids and a wife and a job keeping him busy.  He's following his kid's multiple interests and actvities, he's into fishing, snow skiing, winter mountain biking, hiking, family activities.  I cant tell you how many years its been since I saw a boat/skiing related post on his FB page, so yeah, I'd say he is doing it out of the goodness of his heart.  He owes us nothing.  He could easily pull the plug and leave us with nothing, probably be a lot easier for him. But at least he puts in the effort to keep it up, which perhaps we shoould be grateful for.

Well a good place to start is by reviewing the thread in the link Larry

l http://www.correctcraftfan.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=49031&PN=2&FID=7&PR=3&title=adding-images-to-your-posts" rel="nofollow - ink

Back on Dec 11th, people started getting the error below, it's got to do with using the site photo loading process, nothing to do with using a phone to post pictures, just doing it with the sites software.

Persits.Upload.1 error '800a0005'

The system cannot find the file specified.T

/forum/functions/functions_upload.asp, line 171

The problem happened, he posted that he purchased additional space and it would be fixed within a few hours. it happened in 2020 and 2021 near the end of the year also and was fixed pretty quickly both times.

This time it's not fixed yet.

As far as site friendliness with phones, FB affects on the site and websites in general. reminiscing about the past. people coming and going, that came from other people.

It was a simple question

So maybe to sum it up, wondering why it's been well over a month and photo posting isn't back to the way it was.(no improvements, just back to what it was)

So it seems like maybe we agree............maybe he's doing it out of the goodness of his heart, but letting photo posting degrade from what it was, he isn't doing himself any favors at all

PS.............I had a bunch of other thoughts before 5:30, none of which had to do with CCF Wink

Yes, but unlike Mother Nature, this site issue may be under someone's control.
I think the summation of this thread is:

Well, I guess it's time to say something like "Holy crap, I just posted the picture in the above post from my phone using IMGBB".................and it wasn't  hard  and I didn't have to ask a little kid or anybody else for any helpWink

The hard part would be putting into words what I did, but it was straightforward and not hard to do..

The biggest thing to get out of this is that if I can do it.............well most anybody should be able to do it with a little bit of practice.

The other pictures a few days ago were on a laptop using IMGBB.

Now somebody else who knows how to do this from a phone needs to come along and explain in plain easy to understand English, how to do it.

And..............never again let it be said that posting pictures from a phone is almost impossible on CCF since a relative "phone dummy" just did it. You don't use any of the CCF photo posting software, the picture is pasted from in my case, IMGBB.

I seem to think gun_driver mentioned IMGBB a while back

Edit...............A little digging says that he learned it from Old School Blue 84 back in 2018

"I wouldn't have meet so many great people with similar interests on this site and have made many great friendships"
I think Scott is closer to the truth with this statement. Many contact each other and hang out together bypassing the site or so I suspect. Also wonder if some are involved with different brands and types of boats. Covid, hurricanes and moving due to the witness protection program has really changed my life so what do I know.

The photo disappeared (I saw it yesterday, but gone today, at least for me - maybe Ken's imgbb method works but only for a day, then they fade away...tho the bent rod is still there)  But anyway, cant see it to inspect, but I had a friend that had to chop one off for access to steering cable replacement.  Maybe Ken ran into the same thing???

CCF never seemed to be at the forefront of forum technology. Nobody is saying it should be either. The last 20 years have been fun, resourceful and forged lifelong bonds amongst its members. Again, nobody is doubting that. Just because someone is looking toward the future doesn’t mean he needs to get *************** on. Thanks to those who have made the site what it was and is, and to those making an attempt at keeping it going.

Well, I think I've decided that it's pretty easy to post a picture here on CCF without using the site process which doesn't work anyways right now.

There are probably a variety of ways that people use, but what works for me is using a third party photo hosting service (in my case IMGBB, the free version)

Once you figure out the IMGBB upload process which is easy, then you basically do a cut and paste from IMGBB right to a dialog box here on CCF, like I'm typing in right now. You select BB code full in the embed codes portion of the picture and click on copy, go to CCF and paste it.

Far from the best explanation, but if I can do it, you can too

It bypasses the CCF photo posting process completely and it's easier besides

I suppose it could turn into a Photobucket money fiasco all over again...........or not

And..............it works with a phone  didn't want anybody to miss that part Wink

Maybe this is the new normal here on CCF or the old normal for some people that have posted pictures here for years

Posted By: KENO
Date Posted: January-23-2023 at 10:33am
And for Jodi...........I really don't remember why I shortened the ratchet. but since it has a spark plug socket on it, that's one thing that it gets used for

It gets plenty of use though on lots of different things.

About the shortened ratchet. Anyone that does their own wrenching has their own stash of customized tools that only they know what it is used for. Not to be morbid but when I end up puking out of here , the tool cleanup person will probably shake their head and say " WTF did he use that for ".

Well, after talking with the elephant, he figures that he did what he could and the rest is up to someone else.

He said he was getting a little lonely and he spotted a cute female elephant going by, struck up a conversation with her, one thing led to another and last I knew they were working on making little baby elephants together. Wink

Been lurking on this thread for a while but now I'm really confused......Baby Elephants? Sounds like a new show ski act to me....

I will say - the lack of convenience posting/uploading etc seems to have kept some of the riff raff over on the more common platforms.  It's painful to read some of the posts/comments over there by folks who are unwilling to do a little research on their own.  Don't even get me started on the lack of quality information.  Site traffic might be down, but I don't mind losing some of the redundant questions, posts & comments.

Well, let's try this.................the site has a picture posting issue, it's been pointed out, 7 weeks later it seems nothing's been done or communicated about it from Keith and he's the only one who can do anything about it.

You're  on your own when it comes to posting pictures here these days using a 3rd party photo hosting service or whatever else might work for you.

Any of the other issues mentioned in the thread were brought up by other people. (You can figure out how to solve those yourself)

And the elephant....................he stirred up some interest, but he'd rather be out getting laid right about now, I could probably post pictures of that but you can find those with a Google search Wink

Since Ken has opted to not give us the steps using imgbb, i explored it myself.  Sadly, I was not as lucky as him in stumbling across the secret method.  I went to imgbb and uploaded a photo. (interesting, unlike that AWFUL photobucket site, you dont need an account, you can just upload a photo, I guess it disappears once you are done with it.  There does appear to be a register option so I guess you can store and go back to photos as well, but I didnt mess with that.  As Ken said, you can simply click on/copy the URL of the photo, easy enough so far, but getting it to show up in a post here is the trick.  I tried the various BB codes.  One did not result in the image showing up, just a image icon, and one resulted in a link back to the photo in imgbb.  That is too cumbersome.  So Ken, any tips on how to plant the image url into a post so that is displays as an image?

Well, maybe I wasn't that far off.  I did manage to create a post but I also ended up with an image Icon but no actual image.  I was working from Google Pictures and a separate site that created a link to allow you to upload pictures from Google Pictures to a forum.  Slightly more cumbersome than IMGBB but no restrictions, which made it seem like a good idea, except it didn't work.

I registered for the Free account.so my photos are saved. Earlier in this thread when some of my pictures disappeared it was because I deleted them from IMGBB and had to upload them again to put them back on CCF. IMGBB didn't create the pronlem..........I did it all by myself Wink

Use the BBCode full  option

When you paste the BBCode full into the message box here on CCF, the code shows up when you kinda think there should be a picture showing up.

Next step, mutter a few things, scratch your head and then hit the  "preview" option and the picture is there.

Smile and then hit "post reply" and the picture is on CCF

You can probably skip the preview and just hit post reply and the picture gets posted, but I always hit preview before posting

No guarantees but that's what works for me.

So that's what I get here with Google Photos using my convoluted method.  I tried the same operation on a different forum and the picture went up just fine so it's an issue here, not with the method.

I was trying to dodge IMGBB because there are limits to the amount of data you can keep there without ponying up cash and some other minimum stuff but looks like that's the way to go.  Or one way that we know works anyway.

Still not quite sure what you mean by the "BB Full Code Option"  the [img} thing doesnt work and the [url] thing doesnt work.  Can you post what your entered url/bb code entry looks like?  Interesting that if the image is gone from imgbb it is gone from here, meaning it is not copying the photo to here, but rather posting a link.  Come to think if it, I guess thats the way photobucket worked to, just never occurred to me that was the case.

Well shoot, that's relatively (relative to CCF procedures, not relative to other website procedures).  I had never drilled down to the upload options in imgbb to see the "full" option.  Didnt know if you were referring to a CCF option or an imgbb option.

Dont love the idea of having to store every photo we upload "permanently" on imgbb, but if its our only choice.....  Just save your photos at home too, in case they decide to take your photos hostage like photobucket did.

Good job Larry Wink

Since you're a lot more computer literate than me, it would probably be best for the rest of the CCF people if you could maybe explain the process in easily understandable terms.

No need at all for the "CCF picture process"

It really is pretty easy after you figure it out.

I have any pictures that are on IMGBB saved in my computer/phone just to be safe.

Pretty soon everybody will be posting pictures of everything Wink

Mine disappeared because I deleted them while playing around on IMGBB, yours should be OK. as long as you don't do anything to get rid of them.

I had to upload them again to put the deleted pictures back here on CCF

More good news.  Even tho there are a couple more steps than the original ccf upload (probably no more than  in the new ccf upload) You can upload multiple photos in one step, making, actually, easier than the old way.  so you guys doing projects that you've been dying to show us, can upload several at a time in one easy step to show us your progress.

Per Ken's request, I will post step by step in a new/separate thread.
