Holy smokes for what they charged you should call them for info and make them work for it. Are you talking bevel on the teeth? If so they should face the starter

It has a bevel on the flat section that presses onto the flywheel usually things are pretty easy to figure out,  but the old one is flat on the side going into the flywheel .

Not the best picture of the bevel, but the beveled side goes on first. It just makes it a little easier getting the gear aligned and started on the flywheel when you're installing it.

You can install the gear with either side facing in, since there's no corresponding beveled area on the flywheel itself, just a flat shoulder for the gear to sit against.

The original Ford gear probably has no bevel on either side.

Your other question on the Borg Warner seal........their part number is 10-00-044-014 or sometimes written 1000-044-014.

Google either number and you'll come up with plenty of replacement seals Wink

By the way, just to make you feel not too bad about the 47 dollar nautiqueparts price that you paid and maybe make Gary clutch his chest and think he's having the big one, PCM's part number is R139006 and the price is about 155 bucks Wink

You could also buy one from RockAuto for about 20 to 22 bucks depending on the brand

20 and free shipping on Amazon

ATP-ZA503 and Pioneer FRG157N are a couple of examples
