Did a rebuild on my 4160 last summer but just couldn’t get rid of all the hesitation out of the hole so I decided to just pull the trigger on a new QF M600, The QF was of course a perfect fit, fuel line is hooked up and the throttle linkage is good to go. But she won’t fire up. Is there anything that needs to be done as far a “priming” the new carb? After the rebuild last year she fired right up no issues but with the new one it’s a no go. Have you verified that the fuel bowls are getting gas? Since there are sight windows in the bowls, you should see gas in the windows, or you could remove one of the lower bowl screws and see if gas drains out. You could also remove the fuel line from the carburetor and direct it into a container and crank the engine over to see if the fuel pump is pumping. Do you have a big screw on suction filter that you might have changed at the same time that needs to fill itself up? If the bowls are empty and you want to "prime" things, squirt a little gas down the carburetor primary nozzles (about a half ounce to an ounce or so)and the engine should fire when you turn the key. You may have to do this a few times for the fuel pump to fill things up and have the engine stay running. And it may sound silly, but have you verified that you have spark? This should at least give you some stuff to look at and hopefully get the engine started

Fuel side seems to be ok, I’ve got fuel in the sight bowls but I do not have spark. I’ve got 12v at the coil, replaced old coil with a new flamethrower because I thought it was the culprit and still no spark…. ------------- ‘90 Sport Nautique |

Use a multi-meter and verify the voltage you have feeding the ballast resistor (assuming that you have a ballast resistor). Then verify the voltage at the coil. What distributor are you running? Sounds to me like you've already verified that you have 12 volts at the coil. If you take your meter and hook one lead to ground and the other to the Negative post on the coil and turn the key to Start, see what the meter does. If it stays at 12 that's not good If it stays at 0 volts, that's not good either If it fluctuates up and down between 0 ish and 12ish, that's good. But.....from the sounds of it, you probably won't have any fluctuation If you have no fluctuation, remove the Gray tach wire from the coil negative and try again to rule out an issue with the tach grounding the ignition system. Then answer Jonny's question about the distributor you have and if you can, post a picture of the thing with the cap off
