| It’s always btdc. But your balancer may or may not be marked correctly for your engine rotation. I recommend checking it before using the marks to set the timing. |

You should probably give some info like the year of the engine, and who marinized it. Let's say it was an Interceptor from 1968, you could look in the reference section and find a manual that'll have that info or click on the link below.
