What is the timing setting on a 289 mustang right hand rotation is it BTC or ATC and looking for the degrees

It’s always btdc. But your balancer may or may not be marked correctly for your engine rotation. I recommend checking it before using the marks to set the timing.

You should probably give some info like the year of the engine, and who marinized it.

Let's say it was an Interceptor from 1968, you could look in the reference section and find a manual that'll have that info or click on the link below. The number in the manual would be for the original distributor setup

Why are you asking about BTDC  or ATDC?

Is it because you're checking the timing and it looks kinda backwards, in which case you probably have a balancer with LH markings like TRB mentioned, he has a boat with backwards markings, see the link below
