Greetings guys, my Nautique is having some driver seat mounting issues I hope to get info on.  1973 boat, so I know its tough for 51 years but here goes... The seat mounting rails are anodized aluminum with threaded hold down knobs.  Problem is, the rails mounted to the floor are held in with wood screws that have lost their grip over time.  Any idea what is underneath the mounts in the floor, that I could use different fasteners?  Do not want to screw up my upcoming boating season doing major fiberglass better left for winter!  Suggestions?  Thanks!

Under the drivers seat and passengers seat there is a thin layer of fiberglass covering some plywood so that the screws had something to bite into.  I think it was  5/8 plywood plus or minus an 1/8.

I'll make this not so wild guess that you bought the boat new, so you know it's history pretty well and have probably taken good care of it, but 51 year old plywood may not have much screw holding power if it's wet and soggy.

As a start, I'd probably move the rails forward or backward about and inch or so and see if the screws can get a grip in the wood under the holes or drilling new holes in the rails and putting screws in the new spots under the holes. .

No fair drilling  or screwing too deep or you may end up with holes in the hull. It wouldn't be the first time that happened Wink

Stick with the original length screws..

Thanks much!  I'll give it a try.  Yessir, bought new in 1973 from White Lake Marina (there was no White Lake Marine back then)!  Been either in boat stall or indoor garage its whole life when not on the lake in use.  Solid Tangerine with Taffy deck (no lettering back then, eithe)!  I enjoy the looks on the lake, and it does not scrape bottom like the new gi-normous wakeboats now!

Can we see some pics of the boat.  One owner original is always welcomed for pics...especially on a work day.

Thank You!  I noted another post in general discussion where owners are comparing their hull numbers; mine is SN2041.  So, probably not a ground breaker but one of only a few around central NC anyway that is still going strong prior to large lettering along the length of the hull,  Only regret is that it does not have the Holman Moody; the first Nautique on White Lake NC owned by the Johnson family from Dunn NC had one and the sound is unmistakably better with the cast aluminum exhaust manifolds!
