My son bought my ‘89 Nautique and is having driveability problems with it. His mechanic wants to replace the Holley 4160 with a Edelbrock 1409. Has anyone switched to the Edelbrock and how did it turn out? Thanks!

Didn't do the Holly to Edelbrock switch but I did switch from Holly 4160 to a Quick Fuel 650. Couldn't be happier !!

Feels like I am hanging 10 but in reality - probably hanging 6.

+ 1 on the Quick Fuel.  Edelbrock makes a fine carb, but I’m a Holley / QF guy.

The Quick Fuel M600 is a 4160 ”on steroids“.  The M650 is a 4150 “on steroids”. Your 351 at 4,800 RPM really doesn’t need more than 600 CFM….but the 650 would work well and is a “double pumper” you like that design (I do).

Thanks for the quick replies! The 600 cfm seems like it would be adequate; the boat has plenty of power with the stock Holley (at least it used to!). Is it an easy conversion as far as linkage, fuel line, and mounting on intake manifold go?

Yeah if he wants to go from a Holley to an Eddy find a new mechanic. A new Holley would be worlds better than a new edelbrock but a QF M600 can be made to perform nearly like it’s EFI.

The QF is a spin on a Holley design so the “conversion” will be extremely easy outside of a slightly different fuel inlet configuration. The throttle arm on the m600 is almost identical to the Holley so the PCM block that holds the ball that connects to the cable can be used.
