Video attached!

I have been reading about a transmission whine in the '89 PCM 351. Putting mine away last year and it started this whine and I'm curious if this is what people are referring to? Is this something that isn't going to cause problems or is this something else that I need to dive deeper into?

That is a 40i (1:1) and not a 40a (1.23:1). The characteristic whine occurs at speed due to the reduction housing gears (which yours doesn’t have)… it does not sound like that.

Was it being run dry? Dirty neutral on a dry rubber cutlass might cause that groan?

@TRBenji - thank you! I clearly don't know a lot about this boat other than it's freakin fun to ski behind.

It was dipped in the water during this video so it wasn't being run dry.
